UC gets $4 million donation - $3 million for basketball
CINCINNATI -- A couple has committed $4 million to support sports and music at the University of Cincinnati.

Trusts established by Max and Judi Redlich will include a $3 million men's basketball fund and $1 million for a scholarship fund for the College Conservatory of Music.

The basketball fund will support scholarships and operational costs and will allow the athletics department to reapportion operating funds to other varsity sports.

The Redlichs started Penco Inc. in Cincinnati three decades ago. Penco is a third-party administrator of pension and other benefit plans.

I guess the firing of Huggins didn't alienate ALL of the Cincinnati fans.

I really like the UC campus. It is pretty cool. There are some great sight lines. There's nothing like going to a game at Nippert. If the Bearcats ever start getting good fan support, how far could they expand the seating capacity? Is it in the upper 30's now?

It's listed at 35,000.

I don't know about any official studies, but I am guessing the upper deck could be extended around the end zone and if they really wanted to, could build an upper deck on the home side as well with a new press box.

My guess is they could add another 6000-8000 seats but I can't see how they could do much more.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves. I think UC will get to the point where they can sell out a few games a year, but probably only the big ones against UofL and WVU for example. That could change if UC has a very good or great season leading into the future.
