RE: The best thing for the SBC in realignment is...
FWIW, the closest FBS school to Southern is South Carolina.

The best thing that can happen is zero movement for the next 5-6 years and allow us to build rivalries and enhance our programs. There are some solid programs in this conference and given a chance to focus on individual program growth vs. chasing conferences can make a big difference.

They are going to need more than $6 million that's for sure. Hard to see how they could pull it off.

UNCC has learned a hard lesson, they thought that they would immediately dominate the Charlotte market, and become "the darlings" of the area, maybe even replace the ACC teams, but, predictably, it hasn't happen, the ACC still dominates the market, even App and ECU, seem to have a bigger presence, you can make a case that their own alumi seem to be losing interest, and it doesn't appear the students have jumped on board, and really support the program. Winning against quality programs would go a long way to fixing a lot of their problems, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.
Hit the nail on the head. When ECU was in CUSA, they had the same problem...and still do. It's hard to contend with the storied programs of UNC, Duke, NC State, and Wake Forest. We have a similar issue because we are relatively close to UK and Ohio State.
I would think that App and Georgia Southern have the luxury (from what I can tell) of being off on an island, so they kind of dominate their niche in their states. I don't think there is another FBS school anywhere close to Statesboro or Boone is there?
It's getting better, but south Georgia is still dominated by UGA fans.
Statesboro isn't in south Georgia, similar to how USF isn't in south Florida. But yes REAL south Georgia (and most of Georgia in general) is DOMINATED by UGA. I don't see that changing much anytime soon.
Central Florida knows. I guess there's hope sooner rather than later.

Those two comments seem mutually exclusive. But maybe that's just douche-think.

Instead of 1, if CUSA were to decide to go to 16 and pick off 3 SB schools it would take the conference back to 2001. I think that's a possibility also. CUSA as early as 2003 tried to go to 14 when they tried to get Miami OH, Toledo and Temple after TCU left. They could have then grabbed UTEP and maybe UNT or MTSU then and went to 16.

Saying GSU isn't in South Georgia is like saying Fort Lauderdale isn't in south Florida.

If any of you guys want to have some real fun about the geographic location of Statesboro/Savannah, just go over to GSUfans and tell some of the posters that GS and Savannah aren't South Georgia. It is epic.

Another forest fire we have a tropical storm going on shouldn't be a problem.
Coastal has been on fire the last couple years with five or six nice apartment complexes opening up walking distance to the school.
New dorms are currently being built along with several academic buildings.
State funding is tied to square footage is what someone told me and they have multiple projects just completed or starting soon.
The new baseball stadium and softball and tennis complex are really nice.
The HTC center is too small but I think a second level on the student rec side might be in the plans. The have giant steel beams holding up a small plat form on that side.
The football stadium was built to be expanded so its possible .
Attendance was eight thousand last year a bump up and expansion probably gets it to twelve thousand . So they would need to have tickets sold while they grow.
They sponsor sixteen sports already and the budget is over twenty million.
