Building the lower bowl into the ground in Florida is a bad idea given our high water-table level. That's why most people in Florida don't have basements. As for Stanford, I can see how building the lower bowl into the ground could really save on construction costs. Great idea. Isn't that similar to what they built in Charlotte for the 49ers new football team? 1st level in the ground, 2nd level to be built above ground.

Yeah...that's not really an option is most of FLA...which is basically just above sea level and/or in/near swamp preserve area.

Building "into the ground" is actually pretty common in many parts of the country...as its normally a heck of a lot cheaper/safer to go down than it is to go up. (i.e. from the Rose Bowl to Michigan Stadium, Notre Dame Stadium, etc...)

What I want is the overall look of and design of stanford. We dont need to build it into the ground. We can use a mixture of concrete and metal supports for the structure. It will cost more than what Stanford did, but we also wont run into the highly inflated union labor costs either.
I would guess it would be about a wash between the two.

They should just share a stadium with the Univ of Tampa
