Too many times this year and years past he's just disappeared in games. So does that leave Jon Jon as our go-to guy? Is he ready for that?

I think (hope) that Jon Jon just had a traditional "sophomore slump" last season. He seemed less tentative on offense as a freshman, so a return to that style could make him one of the leading candidates to be the "go to" guy. I also think that Boothe will need to become a more intentional scorer next season, as much out of necessity as anything else. Not necessarily the "leading scorer"...I do think that several of the incoming freshmen will absolutely play key roles. May make for a bumpy ride next season--I'm not sure what our non-conference schedule looks like, but I'd be pleasantly surprised (ecstatic even) with a 20-win season--but this new group of 6 is the future of Rocket basketball, so the more experience they can get next season, the better they should be in their Junior & Senior seasons.

The half court offense last season was the most effective when it went through Boothe in the post. On the other hand, Jon Jon might be most effective when there's no one in the lane. It's all about how they work together to enhance one anothers strengths and compensate for liabilities. The freshman have a lot to learn about Div 1 hoops, their own strengths and limitations and their teammates.

Navigato appears to be a better shooter and a greater scoring threat than Anderson. UT will need points from wherever we can find them next year. I suspect Nate will see some pretty decent amount of minutes next year simply due to the fact that the kid can shoot. I actually like Navigato over TA. Lets see what happens. Navigato is definitely more mobile than TA and in better shape.

Is Nate as good a rebounder as TA? maybe not. Nate only averaged 7 rebounds his senior year but he was on the perimeter a lot. Hopefully UT can use him inside and out and maybe with his ball handling skills UT can use him out at a high post with Boothe more down low. I know UT/TK like Nathan on the perimeter to open the lanes but things may change with Nate here. UT under Nichols would likely use a player like Navigato as a flash pivot which means accepting the high feed, turning and taking the available 10 to 17 footer, or dishing to cutter or finding the open man high or low.

This staff certainly has worked hard on this class.

UT's campus is now an attribute vs. an eyesore detriment as when I started. Anyone remember the army barracks in front of Snyder???

Go Rockets!

Ah yes, indeed...and don't forget the permanent "temporary" building that used to house Sociology/Anthropology...looked like a series of side-by-side trailers...

I had classes in those buildings. You could watch classes on the floor below you through the gaps between floorboards.

I started at UT in 1960 and had to take some kind of requirement course for freshman on the second floor of those buildings. I can't even remember the name of the class anymore but I remember it was taught by Newell Breyfogle, a BB assistant under Eddie Melvin. It was horrific, the guy couldn't teach and it was an unusually hot September, making the temperature in those buildings about 80 degrees, even with the windows open.

Those barracks were called "Fort Necessity" and they were put in place to handle the big influx of World War II veterans taking advantage of the G.I. Bill.

Huge eyesore!

We always referred to the barracks as "Nashville" because of the proximity to Nash Hall.

It used to be (and may still be) that if a player signed an LOI after the official signing period, the signature was not binding until the player was on campus and enrolled in school; he could still change his mind. If this is still the case, than, perhaps, that is the reason why we haven't had a comment form TK.

He's probably has already done his paperwork for UT. In todays scene freshmen usually report for summer classes and have individual workouts start strength and conditioning. Unless there's a graduation issue or transcript problem he should be on campus in June. This helps with the transition to college life.

Good news. Sure would be nice if sports information could get more than a two sentence quote from Coach K about his new signee.
