Pony94, whats the story on it maybe being played in a minor league baseball stadium? If they are talking about the stadium in Round Rock (11K capacity), it would seem that Bobcat Stadium would make a lot more sense. It's the perfect size (30K) and as it is designed for football, it would have way more seats between the 20's.
There are no minor league baseball stadiums in Austin. UT may think they are but, in reality, they aren't.
None of the HS stadiums is big enough. The RRISD one is nice but capacity is no where close to what they would need.
I really think DKR is way too big for an SBC/AAC match-up; which leaves BCS. Maybe that would be enough to finish the upgrades if it went over capacity a few years in a row. At least finish horseshoeing it in.
If it is DKR, maybe after a few years they'll realize it is too big and move it, say, 35 miles down the road.
I am pretty sure that there are a couple of school districts near austin that have 20,000+ stadiums. seem like I have been by one a couple of times around round rock. DKR would not be needed for the crowd this game will attract but would be nice since it is near hotels and other activities and 50,000 college students who might want something to do..

Can't see them kicking off a Brand New Bowl in Austin, and playing the game at a High School Stadium . . . . IMHO, it'll be either DKR .. . Or play it in Bobcat Stadium.
I could see San Marcos as a suburb of Austin . . . At least for a day . . .

Nice stroke of luck (and this one came under radar, I'd heard zip). Conference USA never signed a contract with Austin so when LR pulled out, Sun Belt grabbed the Austin deal.

Glad you guys are getting access to more Bowl games. I like the identity of the Sun Belt and think that with a little more exposure from ESPN, this conference could easily be more succesful than Conf USA. Georgia Southern, App State, Troy, Ark State and ULL are more pure football schools than almost anything Conference USA has at the moment.

I wonder if the shared tv partner is influencing the AAC to work with the Sun Belt over Conf USA.

Marshall, Southern Miss, and La.Tech are more like AState, UL, App, Ga So, Troy than any of their conference mates.

No, it's more like that we just happened to be the two leagues who felt we needed another western tied bowl game...

RE: McMurphy of CBSSports tweets that 3 new bowls are certified-- Belt with 5 bowls
That was a great get for the SBC. I really like the short travel and great locations the Belt Bowls are in. I really good see another bowl for the belt in the future making 6 bowls (especially if we ever go to 12 teams). Why? cause I can see a bowl be disbanded/bankrupt/lose a sponsor/etc... and then that may allow the LR-Rice Bowl to then step in a fill the void or maybe we could steal one away from another conference. If over the next 3-5 years the SB teams can show they can become bowl eligible and then the fans show up in numbers to those bowls (talking 15-20K at least) then it would be resonable to assume that someone would want to have an SBC team as part of their bowl in the future.
I wonder if any of the schools that left for the CUSA are having any regrets. This just makes moving to the CUSA for some schools less appealing.

Just for fun:
CUSA has 7 bowl tie ins: 4 are located in Albuquerque, Hawaii, Tuscon, and the Bahamas. In most non UTEP cases, potentially thousands of miles from the closest school
SBC has 5 bowl tie ins covering just under 50 percent of its teams. 4 of the 5 bowls are within driving distance of roughly half the league, all are located within an hour of at least one campus.
I like ours better.

Like the Belt's Bowl situation much better now . . . .
If we can improve our TV contract, things will be looking very good . . . Add another FB school in TX, and CUSA no longer looks so attractive . . . .

The driving distance is really the only plus there. Mobile, Montgomery and Austin are crappy bowl destinations for fans honestly. There is literally nothing to do in Mobile or Montgomery. Austin I have no idea.

That stadium, near RR, is 11,000 capacity. I used to live 3 miles from it. It won't work. Burger Center, Westlake and House Park won't work either.

If it's Austin it will either be in DKR or Mike A Myers stadium which is UT's Track&Field and Soccer Stadium. It holds 20K.
