The City of Memphis has more pressing needs for financial obligations. Taking care of their policemen and fire fighters before they flee to other municipalities would be a great place to start.

I wouldn’t think it would be cost effective to renovate and bring up to current building codes. Have any studies been done yet?

Hydroponics green house--- a farm and equipment sales.

Y'all are missing the idea. We rent space to the Government who hires local Pot Growers. Then we take a percentage of their sales. Triple net.

My cousin says there's an outdoor one in Mississippi.

Build one of these so it can host multiple events:

As long as it's under 5k the non compete clause does not apply

The way our program is headed, we'll be able to play home games there and still may not fill it up.

I agree 100%...It would be a great home for the women's basketball program, but they may have some trouble filling it up at first...coach Mcferrin will get it figured out, miserable, don't you worry. 07-coffee3

Multiple studies have been done going back at least to the mid-eighties. By the time you "renovate" and bring it up to latest codes, e.g. ADA, you could tear it down and build another.

I wouldn't mind being a PST (traffic cop) if they decide to bring that back. 28k, write reports, direct traffic, city benefits...I could do that. (far less dangerous, too)

Wrong again kemosabe. Study done shows that it will cost around $3 million LESS to refurbish it for re use than to tear it down and build the new building.

As far as studies go, the cheaper way to go is always the way the people in charge want it to go. Anybody can throw numbers into a "study". It would be cool to keep it and turn it into a 5,000 seat multi-purpose facility. If Bass Pro can gut and renovate the Pyramid, then gutting and renovating the Coliseum should be even easier.

January, 2011, the Memphis Housing and Community Development director said the coliseum "has numerous safety and code issues, and it has asbestos throughout"

The people doing the studies/reports also said the liberty bowl ADA renovations would cost twice what it actually wound up costing.

Renovate it or rebuild there with a 5,000 seat concert venue with attached meeting spaces. Have a nice venue to compete with the casinos. It would also serve as nice place to host Liberty Bowl functions.

Didn't the city negotiate a deal with the federal ADA folks to make that possible?

Doubt they would allow that with asbestos...

Don't they still have to remove the asbestos before they can even demolish it?
