ECU to donate $100,000 to VT
ECU AD Initiates The Hokie Fund, Asks All To Support "Orange & Maroon Effect" Day
Support "Hokie Hope" April 19, 2007
Dear Pirates:
Many of you have called or written to express the pain and grief that the entire East Carolina University community is feeling from the tragic events that occurred on the Virginia Tech campus on April 16, 2007. That terrible day and the resulting sorrow have prompted each of us to reconsider our priorities and place all of our daily activities in a proper perspective.
The competitive spirit we share with our Hokie brethren is now prompting the Pirate Nation to action! The ECU Department of Athletics and the ECU Educational Foundation, Inc. (Pirate Club) announces today our commitment to present a check of $100,000 to the Virginia Tech Administration at the season-opening ECU-VT football game September 1 in Blacksburg.
We are encouraging all Pirates to consider contributing to this fund through the Pirate Club. Checks should be made payable to the ECU Educational Foundation, Inc. with a note designating the gift for the Hokie Fund. ECU Athletics will also accept donations at all remaining 2007 regular season home baseball games at the Clark-LeClair Stadium Customer Service Booth. Please contact the Pirate Club (252-737-4540) for additional information.
We are making this announcement at this time to call attention to the fact that Friday, April 20, 2007 has been designated "Orange & Maroon Effect" day to support "Hokie Hope", a national effort of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association to continue the healing process.
We encourage all Pirate fans attending the Friday night baseball game with Savannah State to wear "Orange and Maroon" - with an emphasis on maroon since Savannah State's colors are orange and blue.
It is a great day to be a Pirate ... yet ... today we are all Hokies!
