Well, I got a last minute invite to watch with a bunch of neighbors so I did. This pretty much sums up the entire fight. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do for millions of dollars.

Thanks for the post VA49er. Makes me glad I didn't waste $100. The most amazing thing about the fight (from your gif) is that all the mega celebrities in the front row came to the fight all dressed up as Barney Fife.

That "fight" was a piece of crap. It will be the last great fight in the history of boxing. People will not pay $100 again to see that kind of crap. Everyone associated with UFC loved the fight I'm sure

RE: OT: Mayweather v. Pacquiao
Turned out exactly how I figured it would. Everyone knew it was going to go to decision and everyone knew Mayweather was gonna point Manny to death with accurate low damage jabs. Pacquiao just didn't have an answer for Floyd's defense just like everyone else...

It's all rigged. You watch, now there will be a rematch with Pac winning. So what is the benefit for Mayweather to lose? A bigger payout.

Just watching that Mafia looking guy behind those two boxers tells me a lot. It's all a setup and the viewing public loses out on 100 bucks to watch this circus. I got an invite to go see the fight but I decided to just spend it outside in my backyard with some beers and some nice music. It was a beautiful night, by the way.

Very disappointed in the fight, it looked like a glorified sparring session. I can't see how there would be any demand for a rematch, Pac did nothing in that fight to earn one.

Fortunately for Mayweather, the Pacquiao we saw last night wasn't the man behind the reputation.

RE: OT: Mayweather v. Pacquiao
"Money" Mayweather was shortsighted in the way he fought last night. He could have doubled (or tripled) record-breaking paydays of that unprecedented level, if he would have engaged Pacquiao throughout the fight, and threw more punches with conviction.

An entertaining fight would have secured a sequel. Like a lot of people, I think it's great that he has a strategy down that allows him to strategically plot a win via decision.

However, that view of the fight game overemphasizes the technical side of the sport, while disregarding the main role of the sportsman in our culture as an entertainer. His next payday will be a small fraction of what could have been for him. He also hurt his legacy as much as he helped it last night. It was a wash.

A lot of people, including myself, feel like Pacquiao won. He was the aggressor. Mayweather ran like a small, scared man. He has no balls.

I didn't watch the fight because I'm not a fan of boxing, MMA, or anything like that. But here are the official stats...

Pac landed 81 of 429 punches for a 19% rate, while Mayweather landed 148 of 435 for a 34% rate. Mayweather landed both more punches, and a higher percentage. From what I've read, he's a more defensive fighter by nature, but that doesn't mean he lacks nads.

There's no way I'd risk my health and well-being in a boxing ring against people who train to beat me to a pulp, so it would be ludicrous for me to sit here and question the manhood of a guy who fights for a living against others who fight professionally for a living, and who has yet to lose a single bout in doing so.

Just as there are different styles of teaching or anything else, there are also different styles of boxing. Some are always on the attack and want to turn it into a toe-to-toe, punch-for-punch slug fest, while others are more adept at moving around, and counter-punching, picking their spots.

I really couldn't have cared less about who won this fight, but stop talking **** behind your computers about people who fight for a living and who'd frankly knock you to the floor in 3 seconds flat.

RE: OT: Mayweather v. Pacquiao
No question Mayweather could knock people out who aren't professional boxers (even people who are, he's knocked boxers out before who weren't careful).

But those stats are quite misleading. They disregard the power and damage inflicted by a hit. Mayweather connected more often, but most of the punches were pretty innocuous, as in Pac barely even moved his head in response. They showed a replay of one "punch" that looked like the fist bounced off Pac's nose upon contact, i.e. it was barely more than a tap. I'm not sure how they classify "power" punches when I saw maybe one of Mayweather's that looked like it had enough power to hurt Pac.

Most of Pac's punches were harmless too though, just because Mayweather either jumped out of there or held him so quickly. The way the rules are enforced right now, that's smart by Mayweather, but both the judges and the referee need to do a better job penalizing that kind of disengagement, either through rules changes or enforcing existing rules differently, if they want to force fights to be more exciting.

Just like other sports have changed the rules to favor more exciting play (e.g. NBA recently), boxing should do something to avoid boxers like Mayweather killing the sport even further if they want it to continue. That said, it's hard to justify changing rules that would result in boxers getting hit more given all that's come out about long-term concussion effects. Maybe it's better for everyone if the sport fades further into obscurity?

Here is the fight recreated in the style of Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!

There is a reason why it's called boxing and not fighting.

Unfortunately in boxing you aren't awarded points for being the aggressor.

Except for the fact that you are. There are 4 categories that are used to judge fights. They are
1.Ring Generalship
2.Clean, hard punches
3.Defense
4.Effective Aggression

The problem is what Pac was doing was not effective aggression. He was coming forward, but not landing punches and really not even throwing that many punches. He was always going to have to outwork Mayweather by a pretty wide margin to win, yet he threw less total punches and landed fewer power shots.

This may explain some of the low punch output, very disappointing.
