This kid really needs to stick around campus for at least year.

He still needs to stay in school to work on his basketball skills IMO (and says he wants to stay very badly, according to Calhoun) but his family is in enough hardship that he may have to make the NBA jump for their well-being.

No official word yet from Thabeet.

According to an ESPN inside article, looks like Thabeet is sticking around.

Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun said he expects freshman center Hasheem Thabeet to return to school for his sophomore season but that an official statement from Thabeet on his NBA draft status will likely come by Thursday.

"He's gotten better since the season ended," Calhoun said. "He can now score three or four baskets in a row in a pickup game. He wasn't an offensive factor for us but he should be next year and his rebounding will increase too. He can score points. He has a good touch. He is one player who needed to play pickup games."

Good news for the UConn faithful! 02-13-banana
