M.L. Tigue Moore Field renovations
UL received approval from the UL System to begin work on renovating M.L. 'Tigue' Moore Field. Some minor renovations will likely begin this offseason, but the grandstand demolition and renovation will likely take place after the 2016 season and be completed in time for the 2017 season.

This will be the first project as part of Tier II of the Master Plan. The other major project of Tier II is Cajun Field pressbox renovation.

I had to go back and read the article... The Cajuns are making efforts to make sure it's funded by donations.

When it's donations? I got no qualms with it. I might not think it's the best use of those funds... But I can't (and don't want to) tell folks how to spend their money.

Those funds are being donated for the stadium, if it wasn't for the stadium we wouldn't be getting the donations.

I thought those stadiums were spring training stadiums and only used a month or so a year. I was in Tampa last week and saw mini-Yankee stadium. That was a good looking stadium.

None of our expansion has had money from the general fund used. Its all been money raised privately and through RCAF for athletics. There is no question, no debate as to what this money is to be used for.

Either you guys are recruiting giants, or the new field is going to be extremely small with 30 foot bases and a 100 foot fence.01-wingedeagle

Our recruiting has been pretty good lately, so I'll go with option 1

yeah, even though LSU is not part of the UL System but the Louisiana State system, by what's known as the LSU Rule, they are to be known as the state's Flagship University even though they are in a completely different school system than us.

Because of LSU politics after they had the legislature pass a law ( The LSU RULE ) in 1995 stating that if any university wanted to change their name to The University of Louisiana, two schools had to change their names at the same time and add the city tag, thus UL Lafayette and UL Monroe.

This was done to supposedly appease UL Lafayette who kept fighting for the UL name since we changed our name from Southwestern Louisiana to University of Louisiana in 1984 going through the same process that other state schools went through to change their name. The name was mainly changed for Academic reasons, not Sports.

I was actually one of the lucky ones to actually receive a degree with UL on it, Then LSU and other State schools paranoia set in that UL might grow, so they had a law passed that stated that only the Legislature could approve a name change, so a few months after we became UL we were ordered to revert back to Southwestern Louisiana and I was reissued my degree with that name.

Here is a good interesting short read about the whole ordeal and how Louisiana politics stripped us of the official UL name.
