Because we finished the year ranked as the better football conference. Thats how the money is divided up. Where have you been?....living under a rock? This is nothing new. Everybody knew this was coming.

I'm wondering if we were so close together that the #2 and #3 performance money was combined and split between CUSA and the AAC.

Nope, we were #3 and got #3 money.

The numbers don't fit the formula. CUSA would get 1 million more than the AAC just for having at least 12 teams (rather than just 11 like the AAC). The performance pool was at least 11 million or $733K a share. If you are correct, CUSA had 4 shares (2nd place) while we only got 3 shares (3rd place)---an additional difference of $733K. There should have been a total difference of 1.733 million. Instead , the difference is 1.1 million---which is only 100K over the 1 million extra base the conference got for having 12 teams.

We might have a school or two that had APR issues which would reduce our payout. IDK though.

2) Conference USA: $15.2 million
3) American Athletic Conference: $14.1 million
4) Mid-American Conference: $12 million
5) Sun Belt Conference: $11.5 million

When divided among teams:

MW - 1.725
AAC - 1.28
CUSA - 1.08
MAC - 1
SB - 958k

IND- 933K ($2.8M / 3)

Financially, being an Independent is worse than being in the Sun Belt.

Unless your Notre Dame, BYU, or Army. All have substantial TV contracts and Army has the backing of the United States taxpayer for its programs and its students.

Wait until UMass goes independent and you have to divide that 2.8 million by 4. You might cripple the Notre Dame FB program 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 03-lmfao

Seriously though UMass will be the one that will struggle. Hopefully the Sun Belt or CUSA picks them up. 07-coffee3

Agree - the AAC has bright future. The conference has some great BB programs in UConn, Cinn, SMU, and Temple, and solid FB programs in Navy, Cinn, and now UCF.

Memphis has turned their program around and if UConn and USF get their programs back on track there is a great future there also. Heck even Temple has had some great years since it's resurrection from the the OBE dead. Now all the AAC has to do is grab that G5 Access spot at least 3 out of 5 years, renew the TV contract with Navy on board and a few solid years under its belt for bigger TV dollars, and get at least a minimum of 3 if not 4 or 5 schools in the NCAA tournament which they are capable of with UConn, Temple, Memphis, Cinn, and SMU in the league, then the conference should move back to the top of the G5 contingent. Also the AAC already has a better bowls contracts than the other G5 conferences to build on. However the performance on the field and court needs to improve to catch Boise and the MWC at this time. It is almost like the conference needs a dominating school in it to rise to the top like the weak MWC has in Boise. Even the P5 conferences have certain schools that dominate the conferences while other schools fight for the crumbs and bragging rights in the middle and bottom of the league. 07-coffee3

Yeah, those numbers are off. Here is my breakdown as I understand. I'll take the total for the G5 from the numbers given to each conference.

Total: 73.5 million
Base amount for each conference: MW 12 mil, MAC 12 mil, CUSA 12mil, AAC 11 mil, SB 11 mil. Total: 58 million
Access Bowl: $4 million

73.5 - 58 - 4 = 11.5 mil (this amount left is for conference performance)
11.5 mil/15 = $766,666 per unit.
MW (5 units) = $3,833,330
CUSA (4 Units) = $3,066,664
AAC (3 Units) = $2,299,998
MAC(2 units) = $1,533,332
SB (1 Unit) = $766,666

Conference totals:
MW = 19.8 million
CUSA= 15.1 million
AAC = 13.3 million
MAC = 13.5 million
SB = 11.8 million

Good question. The original announcement for the CFP contract that replaced the BCS and runs from 2014-2026 said that the revenue distribution would be like this-

70%- P5
27%- G5
3%- Ind and ND
That comes out to the P5 earning 259% of the revenue of the G5.

But using the net revenue dollars posted in the article, the distribution in 2014 looks like this-

80%- P5 ($326.2M out of $404.8M)
18%- G5 (73.5M out of $04.8M)
2%- Ind + ND
That comes out to the P5 earning 444% of the revenue of the G5.

To extrapolate this out over the 12 year lifespan of the contract, the P5 is on pace to earn $3.03 Billion MORE than the G5 over the next 12 years. And they have the balls to complain about the G5 not being able to keep up with them financially.

It's criminal.
