Wrong! Again, stick to what you know (maybe).

RE: CUSA average attendance
I think Old Dominion will have the best attendance in the conference once they get their new stadium built.
Marshall has a lot of work to do on the attendance side as well. The good news is that we had 3 games over 30k last year, and some bad weather hurt the other games.
I think we have a better home schedule this year with Purdue, Old Dominion, and Southern Miss, then we also have FIU and North Texas, as well as puke in my mouth Norfolk State.
I think its ridiculous that we at Marshall do not average over 30k/season right now. The Snyder years definitely set us back quite a bit, but a lot of it is Marshall's fault. I think that we have overpriced our tickets for the last decade. Fortunately our ticket department is starting to run specials and such which seem to be working. This is honestly the first time in my life that Marshall has actively started marketing. We are still not very good at it, but at least we are finally doing it.
Also another thing that is going to help us. When Mike Hamrick (our AD) took over he refused to do buy games and 2-1's (outside of a very few select schools.) Demanding 1-1s has been tough on our schedule the last few years, but I can tell you that it is going to pay off for us starting this season with Purdue. We always have 35k+ for any P5 opponent. So far we have only hosted WVU, Kansas State, Virginia Tech, and then Cincy and Temple were BCS at the time if you want to count them. That it for us so far.
Here is what we now have in the future though.
2015- Purdue
2016- Louisville
2017- ***
2018- NC State
2019- ***
2020- Pitt
2017 is not looking good, kind of short notice and we already have 2 OOC home games with Miami (OH) and Kent State.
2019 has much better hope. So far we have scheduled Ohio for a home game and thats it.
I think if we could all manage to get a regional P5 school on the home schedule would do wonder for us as individual schools an as a conference. I think most of us would have great crowds, and we would obviously have a much better chance of knocking off some P5s.

For north texas, there has been 1 winning season in the last decade....
Texas opponents are great, but CUSA has us playing all 3 on the road, then home the following year. We get them all at home this year...should be an uptick in attendance

RE: CUSA average attendance
Rice's biggest issues are small student body and being in Houston, where the market is dominated by UT, A&M, and LSU. UH also struggles with attendance. Also, our stadium is way too big for our needs. With that said, we are currently building a new end zone facility, and other stadium upgrades are supposed to be announced by year-end. Much like FIU, it is not difficult to get good non-conference opponents to play us in Houston. With the exception of this year, we've got some great games lined up at home... 2019 should be especially good!!

UNT fans love to cry about that. What was your number 2 years ago when you had 3 home games vs CUSA Texas teams.

Same schedule for Rice. It's weird, but Southern Mississippi and Louisiana Tech are no box office slouches. And the road trips to UTSA, UTEP and North Texas are pretty easy.

The UNTs averaged 21,000 and change at Apogee in 2013.

I appreciate the confidence but there no guarantee ODU will expand beyond 30k. There has been some talk that the new stadium will even be smaller initially. I think ODU fans would be surprised at a stadium size above 35k.
The administration is going to prioritize continuing to sell out, amenities and suites with the new stadium. The Ted (ODU's basketball arena) took a similar approach- smaller capacity but first class everything else- and is viewed as a resounding success.

Well you guys are obviously doing things right. You sell out every game, and it is 20k and have great demand for your tickets.
I figured you guys would build into the 35k range but glad to know otherwise.
A lot of us at Marshall want us to kind of take that same approach. I'd like to see more suites, and upgrade everything to chair back. This would take our capacity down to around 35k, but it would be much nicer.

RE: CUSA average attendance
I'm thinking a little over 30K for ODU's expansion. Maybe 30,012 - just for our 12th Monarchs? As long as the seats keep selling then I hope to see more expansion as time continues.
Maybe sooner than later we'll get to ODUAlumni's goal of 80,000! I've love to see it, but it would take a number of years and tradition. Luckily, we are on the right trajectory!

Hey a lot better than Western but from reading this thread you would think Marshall would have a lot more....going by the average maybe Marshall should downsize since they are only using 67% of their stadium.

Yeah guessing the perfect size while keeping the demand alive will be quite a task. I am okay with 35 k but it has to be top notch facility that provides an amazing game day experience on the water front.

I'd really like to see them add an SRO area for those really big games like VT. They could say our 100% is 30k, but with a big enough SRO area they can report 31 or 32k as excess tickets over 100%.

2008 & 2009 is when half of our fan base was pretty much on strike. We were a fan base divided, trying to get rid of Mark Snyder (our former head coach.)
So with that, our worst attendance year since rejoining FBS in 1997 was 2009 with a pitiful 22,326. You know what is interesting about this number....
It's still more than WKU is averaging, and roughly 6k more than Charlotte's stadium even holds.
On a regular basis, we average between 26-30k/game.
We averaged more in 1-AA than WKU gets now, and more than Charlotte currently holds.

No. I already pointed out our flaws and what we need to do to increase our own attendance.
Just thought I'd share why those 2 years were so bad.
