Also why the heck are ECU's two games this week not on TV?!?!? ESPN had the schedule time to fill.

Hell no! If you don't have baseball you're not getting baseball money! Simple as that...

Well we have a team, a good team, that was apparently not included in this deal, so we should be getting money (indeed, we should be getting more money for having been put at a recruiting disadvantage by not having our team televised).

Only this year you aren't being broadcast in regular season

At any rate, the exposure is important for perceptions which positively affect recruiting and support for all sports + academics.

Baseball ratings aren't particularly good for Major League teams outside the playoffs, let a lone college games... when you hear talk of conference television money, for example the ACC people usually say the breakdown is like 70% football, 30% basketball ... rarely are the other sports mentioned in any conference contract talk... the olympic sports are usually just merely filler for networks, but schools like to showcase their programs to potential student athletes and alumni.

Great contract. The AAC has some of the top baseball programs in the nation with Houston,Tulane,East Carolina,Central Florida,South Florida and even U Conn. Wish we had Rice. SMU should start a baseball program. They could be another Rice. We need to double or triple the number of games in the second year of the contract.

Not really. You have to figure the viewership for a college baseball game on CBS sports channel is probably 7 people so not really much of a loss.

I couldnt care about how much we get on this round... whats important is we got a shot at being on TV. If our ratings are decent at all, it will only help us get a better deal when it comes time to negotiate.

In truth, our football is only OK. Even the best of our league isnt consistantly taking hte Access bowl, but in basktball, womens bball, soccer and baseball were a solid league. I personally think across all sports were easily the #6 conference and I hope we finally get paid like it.

You are crazy with seven people watching AAC baseball. There will be thousands and in year two CBS Sports will triple the number of AAC games broadcast by CBS. We have that great of a baseball conference. We need SMU to start up a baseball program.

SMU should just buy Dallas Baptist's team, lol. They are top 5 RPI right now and their uniforms are the right colors.

Having a contract is clearly a positive. Is it a big or small get? Who knows we have no idea what the deal is. Is this season's buy small because the year is almost done, and will it be bigger next year? No one but those who signed it know. Is it for X dollars or Y dollars? Who knows.

RE: Finally---A National TV Agreement For AAC Baseball
What I like about this contract is that the AAC is establishing that their is value in our baseball. This can only help us in the next round of negotiations. We currenty make around $22 million a year total from our TV contract but thats not what is exciting.

Has anyone ever REALLY looked at our contract against the rest of the G5?

There is ONE other that is "close" to us and thats the MWC. They have a deal which pays them roughly $18 million a year BUT look at the exposure.

These numbers show the income and number of games on national TV or national broadcast. I included the CBS sublicensing that we got also. The MWC ended up getting a bit more under a sub licensing deal, but it wasnt significant.

MWC .......... AAC
$18 mill ......... $22 mill
22 football ......... ALL home games, plus CBS games and select games (roughly 75 last year)
25 basketball ......... 100+ games
10 W Bball ......... 60 W Bball

We also saw several soccer games on ESPN and now were getting baseball too, which the MWC is basically getting no covereage outside of some local broadcasts.

Whats also not mentioned in there is that out of the MWC 22 football games is that 6 were Boise States home games. So 11 teams had to split the other 16.

(given, deals have minor changes and these numbers may not be exact to what happened, but they are what was reported in the contracts)

My whole point to this is simple, we are 4 years away from renegotiating our TV contract and ESPN does have a history of trying to secure contracts a year or two early. Looking at the exposure and then the success of the league who do you think will end up with the better contract?

Out of all the G5 we have had more success at basketball, football, womens basketball, soccer, and now I think baseball we will end up better too. As much as this conference is ridiculed, I think the exposure is really helping and in the end we will end up significantly ahead of the rest of the G5 come 2019. We just need to continue to make deep runs in all sports.
