Off topic: Happiest and most miserable cities in US
I don't know how they determine this list, but a couple of cities in North Carolina are on the happiest list. Just about every city in and near the State of Ohio made the miserable list. The only city in Tennessee to make the miserable list is Knoxville, which is very accurate. And for those that think that Nashville is so great and Memphis is so terrible, then why isn't Nashville on the happy list and Memphis on the miserable list?

People in Ohio are extremely pessimistic and cynical by nature. When you factor in the crappy weather, the poor economy and limited population growth it makes people looney

This is more of a quality of life than happiness scale. Sure the two can be related but are not necessarily parallel.

El Paso is on the happy list? These lists are always dumb and very limited in what they can measure, but this one might even be dumber than usual. And Columbus on the miserable list? We have a young, vibrant population and a great job market. The weather isn't the greatest, but that could be said about any city east of the Rockies and north of the Mason-Dixon line.

hilarious! and cleveland wasn't on the list? that's awesome. most midwesterners just want it all to be over with. i've flirted with the left coast, but due to laziness and my woman wanting to be close to home, we're in ohio for the long haul. never thought i'd say that. we live in an urban neighborhood right now (cincinnati), but want some more land. land for extensive garden and prairie. southeastern ohio and south central ohio have piqued our interest. southern ohio's great if you don't mind going outside

Bart, Nelson, and Milhouse seemed to have a fun time in Knoxville. So this can't be accurate.

No Virginia Beach, VA? That's where Pharrell is from and he's always happy.

Hmmm...I didn't see the methodology, but I disagree with Cincinnati and Columbus on the list, but I can completely see Dayton, Toledo, and Youngstown. Columbus especially is relatively vibrant. I'd personally be miserable living in Columbus, but that is besides the point.

I live in the Dayton metro area, and I can vouch with a mountain of circumstantial evidence that people here are miserable and mean. I was warned ahead of time, but didn't take heed. A 60 mile trek north from Cincinnati yields a city that is truly rough around the edges.

Yeah, well I got two Austin natives living in my Ohio house. They say it's too hot there. So there.

I haven't been to Cincinnati in a handful of years, but it is completely miscast as a miserable city. I like the city and its environment. It's hard to believe that it would be ranked with Detroit for pete sakes.

Perceptions and even statistics can be misleading and the city that I grew up in and love dearly is a perfect example of perceptions being a bit off. I'm sorry the good fans of Cincinnati are suffering through this.......it happens. The world's perception can be jacked-up in a big way at times.

Proud to say I am from (and live in) the #10 happiest city on this list. Winston-Salem is a great place to live.
