Option B Is Better
I would prefer OPTION B because, if the board went with OPTION A, I would never click it. Just start combining expansion topics into one single thread, and pin it to the top, with EXPANSION as the topic title.

One major problem with creating a special expansion board is that people sometimes turn other topics into an expansion thread. For example, I could post a Tampa/SP Bowl topic if there was an article about it, and certain people would somehow turn it into an expansion thread. I do not want such topics unfairy getting moved to a rarely read board.

I know it might be some extra work for the moderators at first but combining redundant posts into one EXPANSION thread would be better. Eliminating the football and basketball boards would be better too.

Once the new EXPANSION thread is culled together and pinned to the top, send every user a Private Message explaining that they should only post about expansion there, and let them know that violators - meaning those who start other pure expansion threads - will be punished with temporary bans. That might end up being much more effective.

Besides the fact it's off-season, Expansion/split talk is what the BE has to deal with until BE becomes rock solid conf that pays out what other BCS conf pay. KK right, any talk involving Bowls, increasing revenue, NCAA bids, sch promblems are tied to expansion. Be carefull what you wish for, you might kill the board.

B.

Another alternative is simply preventing the offenders from creating threads altogether. It's the same handful of people who keep creating new threads on the same topic over and over again.

Most football related discussions morph into expansion/split discussion. You have pages and pages of opinions express for and again. It needs not to be on expansion per se but it seems to slowly turn into one. No big deal, this is what messageboard is all about, free flow of thoughts good or bad.

I guess I'm going to go the opposite and say "C" with "B" as a back-up. I've seen too many message boards die off when they try to segregate into too many separate boards, which is why I think "A" is the worst option. I don't really care for the expansion threads and usually try to ignore them, which is what I'd suggest many of the "A" folks should do. Option "A" would likely chase off some posters, some of whom could contribute positively to other threads. However, if they don't come to this board, they'll never contribute.

A) Make the little used Big East football board the expansion board where rumors, and arguments between schools can be posted

B) Having one giant expansion thread for the main board. Under this kind of format every expanion comment/rumor will be posted in one single thread

C) Leave things the way they are

Please let us know what you would prefer

C: It's April...the board would almost be dead without blurbs of possible expansion (note Sporting News article from yesterday).

Suggestion to viewers...only click on topics that interest you....its pretty easy to do. (Most posters do a good job in putting the main focus of their post in the subject title...others could probably be a lot more specific).

YOU control want you want to read.

Try it, you might like it.

(Side-note): There is a thread on this board with 100,000 plus VIEWS that really doesn't interest me.

Guess what I do?

I DON"T CLICK ON IT!

I mean I do not read the threads I am not interested in! 05-stirthepot

Take expansion rumor traffic off this board and it will be almost dead! :shhh:

:iagree:

If you don't want to answer or read the EXPANSION threads or posts simply pass over them. This is the BE General Conference Talk section and generally the topics of BE EXPANSION and SPLIT are discussed here along with all the other general topics up to and including the success that the BE has had since the LAST EXPANSION. Besides this topic is wide open for debate and speculation since the Trained Goose and the college presidents put the double secret SPLIT/ EXPANSION plan on paper and locked it up in the double secret safe at conference headquarters. This a hot topic now and will be a hot topic until the double secret papers are exposed in 2010. There are other issues that constantly bring this topic to the light of day with one of them being the FB SCHEDULING PROBLEM that can only be addressed with the EXPANSION of at least one more FB only member, or at least one more all sports member, or a SPLIT. OOPS!! Opened that can of worms again 03-melodramatic 05-stirthepot

I vote "C" - keep it as is. 04-rock :bustacap: 04-cheers 05-stirthepot

I am definitely against B.

I prefer A. (Expansion/Split/Organization)

I am okay with C.

The threads in here are long enough already. A giant thread is the same as saying we're not going to discuss it. There are plenty of different ideas, and they shouldn't all be lumped into one thread.

It's true that this is a "General" board, but when one topic becomes so popular, then it's earned it's own board. It's better to do that than to have people who don't want to talk about the topic come in and just post "shut up" or "beating a dead horse".

Good idea to raise this question, Jackson.

One of the biggest problems with moving an entire thread to an expansion board would be that some people always manage to throw in a couple expansion suggestions. Doing this would sabatoge otherwise good threads, making them disappear from the main board.

Perhaps, we could simply delete any posting mentioning prospective members on any thread that did not START OUT as an expansion thread. It's actually the hijacking of threads that is annoying.
