Tulane gets 3* small forward Kipper Nichols
Kipper Nichols, a 6' 6" 200lb small forward from the Cleveland area, just committed to Tulane for this fall. He's a 3* recruit on 247 Sports and had offers from Clemson, ECU, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, St. Joseph's, and Xavier, among others.

This puts all but 1 AAC recruiting class in the top 100 this year on 247 Sports, and that's Tulsa, so we probably don't need to worry about them. It's a big deal for us, making this the best recruiting class we've had in a long time. Now if only Conroy can capitalize on it...

Just think. Each game, for the next four years, Tulane will try and win one for the Kipper.

I expect Tulane to be a nice surprise next season....

they return kids like Dabney, Stark, Reynolds, Henson, Osetkowski, etc...plus, they have a good class coming in with Harris and Nichols.

Tulane just might break the 20 win mark.

Congrats. I hope to visit NOLA again to see a Tulane / Tiger game. I went last year and missed playing in your home arena and touring the grounds (both my parents graduated from Tulane).

I admit, I don't keep up with MBB recruiting. I had never heard of Kain Harris or Kipper Nichols until today. But on the two main Tulane fan-sites (yogwf.com and gotula.net), even the most cynical and jaded observers are admitting this is a huge step forward for Green Wave hoops. Best signing class in 15+ years.

Thank you, AAC. This would (obviously) not have happened for us if we were still in C-USA

That's part of it, but the other part is he jettisoned most of the Citadel guys and his old buds from his staff and finally hired some coaches who know how to recruit. Remember we lost Tarrant and Davis as future AAC members.

Kipper Nichols is only a three star commitment. Tulane needs four and five stars to move up but Conroy cannot deliver. CJ our football coach has all three star players but we only won three games last year. Next year will be another losing football season; can you believe our AD Rick Dickson is paying CJ over a million dollars a year for this! Tulane men's basketball has not been invited to the NCAA tournament in 20 years!

Granted. To get excited about a three star is telling of the state of a program...however, you have to crawl before you walk. BTW, with the right coach a team of 3* players can be winners, esp once that team reaches maturity (mostly jr/sr). But yes, to have sustained long term success you have to start getting some fours and the occasional five in there.

It's not the 3 stars that excites- we signed a couple of those in the last 2 signing periods. It's the offers list, including confirmed active offers, from programs, while not elite, assuredly better than ours has been and from top 5 conferences. And yes, we can get where we need to go with 3 star players if they are well coaches, stick around and are really 3 star talents.

I mean you are right it doesn't necessarily excite but if the lower part of the league can start grabbing these guys consistently these teams will rise. That is what is important about seeing teams start to land higher quality players. As the bottom rises the profile of the league will also rise. Houston , ECU and Tulane seem to be grabbing enough guys to be much improved which is important as we need their RPI's to increase substantially.

He is only a three star recruit. To get back to the NCAA tournament after twenty years and the top 25 we need four and five star players. Conroy cannot deliver this. CJ our football coach has many three star players like Nichols but only three wins last year where our horrible AD Dickson is paying him over a million dollars a year. Tulane men's basketball is at the bottom of the AAC.

Saw Nichols play 7 times in the past two years (including the best State Finals ever played in Ohio last year, here he beat my cousins)...he'll be a very good player for you guys before he's gone. Volume scorer, but can get to the basket well and defends well enough for a high schooler. 04-cheers

Jonathan, Tulane will never get 5 star recruits. Temple doesn't get 5 star recruits, and we just got our first Rivals 4 star recruit under Dunphy and he's been here for 10 recruiting cycles. Tulane is not likely to get consensus 4 star recruits anytime soon.

Weren't we the 7-seed out of 11 teams?

Not great. Not even good. But not the bottom, either.

Tulane had four and five star recruits under Coach Perry Clark such as Gerald Honeycutt and Rayshard Allen.

Oh sure, Tulane Football is going to land flat on their faces in 2015 - we don't stand a chance...much less the Basketball Team!

The ratings system around today only started in 2002, so no, Tulane didn't. No one cares about 1993 anyway. The high school and college basketball landscape is completely different. No high school McDonald's All American is going to Tulane. You are being completely unrealistic.
