If you'll excuse me, I have to make the last few edits on my "Southern Miss belongs in the NFC South" column for Bleacher Report.

Marshall will never move up and I will bet anything that they have been approached many times for P5 games and declined. The Big 12? Really? If anyone moves up, it will be Georgia Southern or East Carolina!

Re: Marshall fans, how would you feel about this?
In close circles and reported by CBS this past fall, Marshall along with Memphis/Cinci was getting some chatter about being a possibility for the Big 12 in the future. Not likely to ever happen but the talk was real.

As for Big 10?...Would never happen and never has been any chatter in relation to that league.

Umm, there is a less directional Illinois already in the Big10 and already in the Chicago tv market. Just saying.

Don't forget Northwestern and the tens of thousands of B1G graduates working in Chicago. It's not a market they should be concerned with expanding. They already own it.

ECU, maybe. But Georgia Southern? Lol. They might move up to CUSA at most. If not they'll be in the Belt for the foreseeable future.

As good as NIU has been in football in recent years, they have no chance at moving up with their facilities and attendance numbers.

It's not feasible for Marshall or Northern at this time.

We don't decline P5 games. But the company line here was do 1 for 1s, at worst a 2 for 1 and not often. We adjusted our scheduling to get rid of bodybag games to be like the other CUSA schools. They demand home games in return for playing away games. Now most of those teams are gone and we are back in a conference where more than half the teams schedule 1 and dones. Marshall already paid it's dues with playing 1 and dones. If we choose to hold out for teams that will offer return games, that's our business. A lot of those 1 and dones got beat by us at their place or had bigger scares than they'd like and do not return our phone calls.

You guys that keep scheduling these games @Alabama, @Notre Dame, @Texas, @whatever school is unbeatable at their place by a CUSA team can claim you have the hardest schedule on the planet. But the fact is you get nowhere that way and would make more money on a mid P5 game in your stadium that is very winnable.

Marshall was probably hurt the most in realignment with losing the top teams in CUSA on our schedule, Louisville moving conferences and needing to postpone, and USM declining. We have 1 or more P5 on our schedule from here on out, with a home game each year from these schools for the foreseeable future. It took a couple years to get that fixed after realignment. But I guess ODU fans wouldn't understand that after just having been spawned.

UTSA does it the best, IMO. They somehow have great teams coming to their place all the time. Their schedule is one that we all should try to model and when they finally get the planets in alignment there, they are going to make waves. Tsunamis.

Throwing the best teams in the game on your schedule with only a game at their place may let you crow about how great a schedule you have, but in the long run you just lose fans cause you never win, you lose players that get the crap beat out of them at those types of games, and you don't help your conference mates with legitimate chances of winning because your record is ******.

Pretty sure Northwestern is "Chicago's Big 10 Team"

What about the Chicago market? That's rhetorical so let me answer it for you. NIU shares it with Notre Dame (among others), which means you have such an infinitesimal share of it that it's essentially worthless to even mention.

And news flash for you the Big 10 already has the Chicago market cornered. They don't need another team there. This should have been made clear to you when the Big Ten attempted to entice Georgia Tech.

If anything the only way in which your market becomes valuable is to a league like C-USA where it can gain entrance into a new market and further cut into share of the other G5 leagues such as the MAC. So, if you want to have that conversation that's fine, but that article is mind numbling asinine and any conversation about is likewise the same.
Welp i guess that makes NIU AAC bound =/ which makes me nervous since every team there is dying to get out and it's one good P5 raid from being irrelevant...

In the eyes of the Roy Kramer types the AAC has been and will remain irellevant.

The only way we could ever have a legit shot at the Big 12 is if WVU were ok with it. Which I'm not sure if that would ever happen. Isn't their some relationship between their new AD and someone at Marshall?

Someone needs to take their meds....

GA Southern will be in the Sun Belt 25 years from now and ECU has been trying to get to the ACC for as long as Ive been following college athletics, neither are going anywhere.

Ummmm as far as Marshall scheduling, we may have turned down some 1 and dones. There is no reason to play Ohio State, Auburn, Alabama for a million dollar check.

The last time Marshall played a 1 and done was 2010 and it was contracted by our old AD. We played Ohio State and got beat 45-7, a win that was later vacated by Ohio State. The biggest story of that game was Freshman TE Gator Hoskins was injured on the 3rd play of the game and out for the rest of the season.

We don't have the resources to move up. Agree, our league as a whole needs to improve itself and start winning any OOC games played. Increase the league brand and value. Anyone that thinks we have been approached by a P5 league or could move up in our current state is delusional.

If you look through his post history I highly doubt he was being sarcastic. I don't think he tries to troll he is just really enthusiastic and doesn't always make the best arguments.

I imagine Cincy might move up , and the american conference might pick marshall to replace them.

Now that is certainly possible. There are some teams in C-USA that would be attractive to the AAC, depending on who might have left the AAC. Marshall, ODU, Charlotte once they get their football up to speed, USM, UTSA, Rice are the ones that come to mind right off the bat.

There is a huge gap between the Sunbelt and everyone else. There is another gap (although not quite as large) from the Mac to everyone else. The MWC conference is the best and then there is a small gap between CUSA and the American. Problem for the American is if Cinci takes off, that gap closes even more. Would it still be worth making the jump while paying an exit/entry fee to the American with Cinci not there? Not really sure. Probably not.
