Glad to see the Pack veto Friday Night Game with ODU

One of the reasons I was surprised VA Tech is hosting a Friday Night Game against NCSU. I know NCSU has stated no Home Friday night games. They will only play the ones ACC Schools want to host. Really glad that having a home Friday night game was not mandated in the new TV Contract. Friday really should be primarily for HS Football.

I agree. Nobody should be forced into a Friday night game.

That said, applied correctly, I've softened a bit in my opposition to Friday night games...the ratings are pretty strong. I think BC-Pitt did a 2.0 rating or something like that. On a Saturday, what's that, an ESPN News game at .3?

Especially if you're BC or Syracuse with no high school football to protect...why the hell not get the exposure that you'll never otherwise get.

Do high schools in the northeast play on Friday night? I know they didn't when I lived there, but that may have changed.

I am not a fan of Friday night college games either. And I'm very surprised that Wake agreed to host one (the Deacs play Louisville at home on 10/30).

But per ACC Senior Associate Commissioner of Football Operations Michael Strickland:

Quote:In this and future seasons, we will play five Friday games, an increase from three in previous seasons. Playing in a limited inventory of specialty games on Monday, Thursday and Friday affords our programs an exclusive platform before a guaranteed primetime national audience to showcase their football and athletic programs, as well as the broader institution. They are highly valuable for a number of reasons, and certainly among them is the financial value those games create for the ACC and its member institutions to continue to meet the needs of our student-athletes.

So I guess somebody has to host...03-puke

More schools play on Saturdays in the northeast. HS football also doesn't seem to have the cult following that it does in the south.

Neither does college football which factors in as well.
