Wasn't Etling the true freshman QB who the Purdue fans were clamoring for in 2013 when NIU played them?

I think you are right. I remember they brought in a kid for the 2nd half that they were going to redshirt. The beat down we gave them had them pull it and play him.

Yes. Etling is/would be a true junior this season. Max Morris, one of our 2015 signees tweeted something about surgery. Doesn't look like he's showing up this summer.

Another big transferee is LSU LB Clifton Garrett. He is from Plainfield South. Apparently, is going the JUCO route so grades might be an issue.

I thought this thread was for verbals and updates on already committed verbals. I think some of theese other discussions should be on the recruiting thread. Every time I click on verbals, I am hoping for new news! Just saying.

Seems like there is some weird info on this guy. The Rivals article from 6/10/15 says that he went to the Minnesota camp as a TE. I'm hoping we want to keep him at OT. He looks fast. Love when you have an athletic OT who is one of the faster guys on the field at 6'6 290.

Here's a good report on him, https://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/co...D=1736781. That article says he was one of the top basketball prospects in the state this year but I can't find any recruiting info on him from a basketball standpoint.

That'd be my guess as to what ends up happening with him. There's been at least 1 guy like that in 3 of the last 4 NIU recruiting classes: Howard (2012), Dale Brown (2014), and reportedly Ryan Roberts (2015).

RE: 2016 Official Verbal Thread
This class profiles as SPEED. The second priority appears to be height. The third priority appears to be flexible athlete. This may not be a highly rated class, but I think the coaching staff is taking its time and filling in some holes. I think they are recruiting a certain profile athlete and will plug him into a spot that maximizes his talent. This is quite interesting from my perspective. I have closely followed NIU recruiting for about 20 years. Does anyone else see what I see?

Based on the fact that there are only 14 seniors on the roster (excluding Rock), this class will likely be relatively small compared to others.

Better to find talent that fits your system, along with the physical attributes your looking for and position need than worrying about how the professional paid rating organizations rank your recruits. Because as has been show for at least the last 5-6 years is that the recruiting services are not accurately rating recruits beyond the 4 and 5 start players. NIU has had a 63-20 record the last 6 years with talent rated average at best compared to it's conference competition.

RE: 2016 Official Verbal Thread
New commit, Daniel Isom from St. Louis University High (SLUH). Appears to have been offered at tonights Friday Night Lights. He earned second best DB award at RCS-ST.Louis finishing behind Northwestern commit Rod Campbell. Here is what was reported after the camp.

" This was the biggest surprise of the day, as Isom had everyone in attendance trying to figure out why college programs are not all over the cornerback from St. Louis. Measuring 5-foot-10 and 165 pounds, Isom initially caught defensive back coaches' eye in the drill portion where he was regularly singled out for being fundamentally proficient. He carried that momentum into the one-on-one session, breaking up pass after pass and frustrating wide receivers who could not shake his coverage. We are either seeing the birth of the next hot recruiting target, or some team is going to get a steal with the quick and athletic Isom."

http://www.ksdk.com/story/sports/high-sc.../28793137/

Rivals has Isom as a 3* rated 5.6 and #10 player in Missouri.

Dan's sister is on the womens track team, part of the 4 x 100 relay team that took 1st at MAC championships, and was just named academic all MAC

Great work by the staff targeting a talent rich state (Missouri) with 2 large markets that has only 1 P5 program and no G5 program!

Don't get me wrong, I love all these new verbals, but... I don't like how almost all of our commits have 0 other offers besides NIU.
