Quote:The Buckeyes, who beat Oregon in the inaugural College Football Playoff championship game in January, will pay Hawaii $1.2 million for a Sept. 12 matchup, Northern Illinois $900,000 to play on Sept. 19 and Western Michigan $1 million to come to the Horseshoe for a game on Sept. 26.
We're not paying MSU to play in Kzoo. It's just that they won't pay US when we go There the next time. That's why it's an expensive game, as it isn't financially the best of ways, but more cost helps make up for it pretty decently.
Too early in the morning to really crank up the calculator, but in simple terms if the game draws an extra 14,000 fans at $70, that's an extra $980,000. Normally we'd pay $400,000 for a OOC opener, so that is a plus that we don't pay that.
The 14,000 is feasible, opener might normally draw 22-24,000 if not subsidized CommUni night. If MSU draws 38,000 that would do it.
The normal tickets will be plus $40 or so each above the normal price. Say 20,000 tickets at plus $40, that's $800,000.
Downside we don't get payed for the return trip.
Now it might not draw at that price. Some chance people won't pay up or somewhere else on that holiday weekend. But I see a sellout.

Might see something closer to 15,000 this year due to the excitement of the opener. But that will also heavily depend on our showing.
How we fare the following week at Georgia Southern will probably also have some impact on the CommUniversity Night crowd.

They're are 10k comp tickets paid for and handed out by various vendors and businesses. That includes free food and FREE BEER. The game has nothing to do with the CommU turnout, it's all about the free booze and food.

Absolutely true....one might say this is one area where the marketing dept gets it right!
Nope Dan Meinert, AD back in the mid 90's. His idea. Brought in the lights for the first time..was promoted like crazy and it stuck. That first game was a great atmosphere.

I was told by sources that it was John Fleckenstein's idea (now Father John Fleckenstein). back in the 90s, he was student body president at WMU and later he was Deiter's assistant.

There has to be some irony there since WMU now has a coach with the last name of FLeck?
