I think they picked the firm to do the study but haven't announced anything officially? Once the study is done another search for design firm will be done. Seems like a gruelling process.
Who ever designed ODU's stadium did a crappy job as far as seating goes. To me the sides of the stands should have went straight up inside of going in as you go up. First time I saw it was on our trip up there for the Western basketball game and while I like the closed in design of it I hate the shape of the stands.
What up with the list of names on the walls? I understand all of them were great players but MOST ARE VISITING players that probably hep stomp a mud-hole on ODU.

The stadium was a New Deal (WPA) public works project built in 1936...

Others have already mentioned it's age, but I'll have you know that it's a beautiful stadium too.
Yes I do know the age now after just reading up on it and it explains the names on the outside of the stadium. But the design of the stands should have been the first upgrade when ODU went FBS. But I guess that can be done when you need those extra seats....

as long as I get one of them on Halloween :)
The plan is to replace the stadium completely. Once we went FBS there was no reason to really sink any additional money into a stadium that wasn't viable as a long term option. The current stadium is going to be torn down and replaced with dorms I believe.

I don't think the stadium was ever intended to be a long-term solution once ODU went FBS. Had they stayed in FCS, there probably would have been more extensive remodeling done because there wouldn't be a need to build a substantially larger stadium at that point.
Once ODU announced, my suspicion is that the thought process went "OK, what can we do to get us through the transition until we have something new?"
We've needed seats for a while. Every home game since ODU restarted football 6 years ago, has been sold out. Homecoming Gameday we have about 70K on campus.
for a guy/gal who 'went by' the stadium (a block off the main road, and not at angle to see anything) and who went to a basketball away game at a gorgeous basketball arena, saw his/her the team lose by 23 points on TV, decides that a thread about facilities for Charlotte and Old Dominion is the perfect time to add-in his/her thoughts about a 80 year old FCS quality football stadium...trolls are the best
Most likely Old Dominion will use the FAU Stadium basic floorplan (right size, good angles, TV coverage friendly), oriented to take some river views (300 yards away from one end zone) and have more media friendly press facilities, have 35+ skyboxes (I think closer to 45 personally)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the original stadium was left unchanged intentionally. I believe if we would have touched any of the original structure, we would have had to bring EVERYTHING up to the modern codes, ADA standards, etc. At that point it would have been cheaper and better to level the whole thing and start over.
As mentioned previously, Foreman Field was intended to be an adequate FCS stadium. This whole FBS thing caught everyone by surprise. However, based on our other facilities, I'm pretty sure the university will do a nice job on the new stadium....not to mention that it will be full of fans!

What in the hell are you talking about, trolling?
I asked a freaking question about something I just thought about and this threaded reminded me of it. As for seeing the stadium from a block away at a angle to see anything...wrong again.
I parked beside it walked up to a police officer sitting in his car eating lunch and asked if it was OK to walk around and that's what i did. Of course you only get angle sight lines from the gates but still enough to see strange looking stands.
Now talk about trolling for a guy, maybe girl to comment about a basketball game played a month ago and bring it up in this topic...
