RE: CUSA Baseball
Coach Shoop said the Blazers' focus has to be on weekend series, not mid-week games. That's the excuse I'm using for last night's 5-1 loss to the Crimson Menace.

Yeah. Me too. That's the excuse I'm using for going "o-fer" until last night.

RE: CUSA Baseball
USM gets a small break from killing their RPI as tonight's game vs Alcorn St has been cancelled (will not be made up) due to weather. Alcorn has a RPI of 277 so even a win and we would have most likely fallen around 10 or or spots, and had we lost we would of probably fallen around 20-25 spots. On to this weekend vs FAU (Fri, Sat, Sun) but that isn't looking promising weather wise either as rain projections are 100% on Thursday and Saturday, and 90% on Friday and Sunday. With as much rain as we've already had this week (today's game has already been rained out), the outfield is soaked already.

FAU and Southern Miss split on Friday. Will try to get the final game in on Saturday or Sunday. Lots of rain forecast...

For the second straight game against Charlotte, the miners have finished the 8th inning leading by two runs and lost both games to league leading MiddleTennessee.

The question still remains "Is Charlotte that bad, or is MT that Good?" Or, more likely, "Does Charlotte just have a weaker Bullpen than Middle?" I'm thinking it's a "weaker Bullpen": and the Raiders have been on a little hot streak over the last five or so games. The 49ers are not a bad team.

Now if we can just mosey down to Music City and smack Vandy at their place; I think we might have a full head of steam heading into next weekend!

RE: CUSA Baseball
I surmise that Charlotte baseball has been hanging out with the basketball team too much. Either that or their coach is emphasizing the eight innings of baseball and doesnt realize we play nine nowadays. The Niners (or perhaps the Forty Eighters is more appropriate? ) held late leads in every game and still managed to lose them. We scored seven runs in the ninth inning during the series and at least two in all three games.

Charlotte is last in the conference in team era at almost 6 runs a game. They have two pitchers with era's under 5. They're also near the bottom in fielding and defense.

FWIW I believe we may have 5-6 upperclassmen on the team.

RE: CUSA Baseball
I really enjoyed this lead from David Neal at the Miami Herald...
http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fiusports/
While FIU treads water, losing two of three weekly because Panther bats rest on the Christian sabbath (2-6 on Sunday in Conference USA play), Middle's been watching the Panthers' back by keeping their competitors back. If not for a surprisingly strong conference season from the Blue Raiders, FIU's chances of making the Conference USA tournament would sit at the somebody-kill-a-chicken stage instead of tied for sixth with Alabama-Birmingham.
This weekend, Middle swept Western Kentucky, leaving the Hill People on the outside for now, in ninth and two games behind FIU. The Hill People went two for three at Camp Mitch, including an embarrassing Sunday run rule win. You can find Old Dominion, another team Middle swept, tied with Western after taking two of three from FIU this weekend. The current eighth place team, Charlotte, got swept by Middle. So did UAB.
So Middle won all 12 games against FIU's peers in the conference standings. And, the Panthers should thank God and Conference USA scheduling lords that Middle's the one conference team FIU doesn't play this season.
