Former White House usher Skip Allen tells Brower the Clintons were “about the most paranoid people I’d ever seen in my life.” Another usher Chris Emery was fired because he taught former first lady Barbara Bush how to use a computer, and later took her call when she had technical problems. But the Clintons saw his call log, became convinced he was informing on them, and found a pretense to fire him.

“I was out of work for a year,” Emery says. “They ripped the rug right out from under me. You wonder what they’d do to someone who’s really powerful.”

One White House staffer shared the disturbing time Chelsea Clinton called a Secret Service Agent a “pig” to his face, a derogatory term for law enforcement.

I read an interview with a White House employee who had been there 40+ years. He said George and Barbara Bush were the most gracious people they worked for. The Clintons (especially Hillary) were at the other end of the spectrum.

I served tables at a restaurant that served Laura Bush on more than one occasion, and everyone there thought she was among the most polite and gracious people they'd ever met.

Though she also killed a kid in high school with weird circumstances surrounding it, but whaddya gonna do?

They are an interesting couple from the standpoint of personal tragedy early in their lives. I think that incident was a tragedy and that it's really hard to look at Laura Bush and believe that it rose to the level of a crime.

Oh, I actually agree 100%. It's just a weird story, in sort of a TV drama way.

For as gracious as the Bushes may be, I've seen them in action in various places around the world. They are not what you would call nice people, at least in their business dealings.
