RE: Ridiculously Early Preseason Top 25
There are still a lot of draft decisions to be made, and a lot of recruiting to be done. Until the Kentucky players commit one way or the other, who knows where to place them? And if more of them stay in school than expected, the recruits that have to look elsewhere for a roster spot could be difference makers at the school where they land.

As of right now, the Wildcats have 16 scholarships committed for next year - three over the limit. They could lose as many as 8 of those to the NBA (2 Juniors, 3 Sophs and 3 Freshmen). That would free up five more scholarships in this class. They have offers out to 6 players who are ranked in the top 12 of the ESPN60. They are:

#2 Jaylen Brown (GA)
#4 Malik Newman (MS)
#8 Caleb Swanigan (IN)
#10 Stephen Zimmerman (NV)
#11 Cheick Diallo (NY)
#12 Brandon Ingram (NC)

All of those players have Kentucky on their final list of choices. If they landed five of these, it would give them 7 of the top 13 recruits in the class of 2015. Let's see what the early rankings look like on May 1.

8 acc schools show up on these lists but I thought Syracuse should be in there as well. I think what this all shows is a greater overall strength in the top half of the conference, unlike this past year when about 5 schools dominated the rest and gave too many losses to the middle of the pack to make it into the tournament. This coming year it seems like there might be dominance by uva and unc at the top but about 6 other schools will all be in the top 25 or close to it.

Always kind of interesting to see these. After the bad showings some have in the tourney, you really wonder if they will be given the hype again the following year regardless or if maybe they will fall off their "pre-determined" pedestal. Looking I would have to say that they didn't learn much from the B12 implosion. I don't think I would have any of them in the top 15 after the way they all looked. But if they start the year again highly ranked, and then only play cupcakes and each other, thereby getting credit for their losses being to ranked teams, sure they will be considered top 25. Tourney time they probably prove once again that they were not very good. How many years does it take for a lesson to be learned?

In the last decade Kansas has 4 Elite 8s, Oklahoma has 1, Texas has 2, Baylor has 2, Kansas St has 1, and WVU had 1 while BE. They have 1 title and 1 runner up --- both Kansas with a top seed. No other final fours (except the WVU one). Yet they get constant raves.

The B10 hasn't won a title in over a decade. They have played for the title 4 times and lost. OSU has 3 Elite 8s, Michigan has 2, Wisconsin has 2 now, MSU has 4.

I just don't get the continued love year after year.

The ACC has 3 titles (not counting UL) and 1 other final four. That is not counting a title and 3 final fours by UL or a Syracuse final four. There are a total 10 Elite 8s (counting UL and ND this year but not counting the BE time) -- if you add Cuse and UL totals during those year, it has 1 more title, 2 more final fours -- 3 more Elite 8s.

Granted different teams -- but the coaches and strategy for a lot of those schools remain the same -- the types of players remain the same -- thus their continued return to the top 8 over years and years -- not like a Butler and it was a fast 2 years and out.
