Never claimed it was. Just said it's a better place to be than Greenville, which is 100 % true. Which is why, despite all your resources and low academic standards, we have Keatts and you have Lebo, and even in our worst years we've been better than ECU.

At least you have football. 1st down Pirates! ARGGGGHHHHH! 6 Saturdays a year that town can be happy compared to 365 here. Yay!

...and AAC basketball, and more money, and more fans, and better facilites, recruits, and more TV etc. Who hired that coach BTW? The associate AD we farmed out to you like bigger schools do. Not in the last decade you haven't. This is the first year in like a decade you actually had a higher RPI than us.

Get back to me when you crack the top 100 RPI again. Lebo did that in his first year so it's not like this the history is written on Keats as a great success anyway he had an even bigger improvement his first year.

OK. I'll be sure to get back to you then, but you probably won't be here to respond unless I say something mean about ECU.

Just so you admit it. All I said was we probably weren't in the market for him and that we suck and somehow I'm sure I'll get blamed for whatever.

I wouldn't trade situations still today. We'll both have new coaches in 5 years.

So you're suggesting your next coach after Lebo will fail too?

RE: Possible transfer out of Louisville
UNCW owns EZU in basketball and always has. The only thing EZU has going is a BOG that is limiting the size and scope of UNCW despite the incredible demand for students to attend here. With only 14,000 students, we simply don't have the financial horsepower of student fees EZU has. However, if we get the Chancellor I hope we get, he has his eyes set on 20k at UNCW and is a powerhouse fundraiser. Things may change rapidly.

Furthermore, given the chance, does anyone think Keatts would have taken the job at perennial loser EZU? Not a chance.

He took over a UNCW program that didn't have a top 250 RPI in like 8 or 9 years or something absurd.

What do you pay him like 300 or 400k. We started Lebo at 600k 6 years and two extensions ago. Who knows what we even pay him now as scary as that is. I'm sure no coach would of any quality would want to get paid far more, work in a higher profile conference, with better TV and access to players, more fans, and new practice facility etc. Yeh our program sucks moving forward.

Given the fact that Coach Pitino had an impact on helping guide Keatts to a program that has a significant upside... I'd say ECU didn't stand a chance. Sure, they play in the AAC but in terms of turning a program in a conference winner and doing so efficiently... UNCW was the better choice hands down. Now, I'm not naive. I understand that the reason for that is that we play in a weak conference right now thanks to our heavy hitters leaving for the A10. Regardless though, we HAVE had more success historically concerning quality basketball coaches than ECU. That's not debatable. Let's just start from Coach Wainwright and work our way to the present:

Coach Wainwright...
Coach Brownell...
Coach Moss...
Coach Peterson...
Coach Keatts.

Moss and Peterson were the only two hires that you have a shot at debating coaching strength. Wainwright, Brownell, and Keatts all take the cake in comparison to what ECU has. Those are the facts, Jack.

If we both have new coaches in 5 years, it will mean UNCW has been kicking butt, and EZU has been...well...EZU.

See, that's the thing Jonesing... we've been hearing that last statement for years from your crowd. Sure, there's always a "chance" you could move in a forward direction. The sad reality though, is you're not. Your program is spinning tires and sinking deeper. I don't care how much you pay Lebo. All that says is we have a model of attractive a superior coach AND can pay him less to coach our team, despite all the advantages you stated that you think you have.

Congratulations on that.

Oh, and one last thing...

Our program IS ACTUALLY moving on. We're rising from the ashes. You're well... not.

Great so two are long gone 10-20 years ago and completely irrelevant now just as the Herrions and Stokes are to us, and the other had one season of 140 RPI basketball to his entire name. Crown him.

Give me the foundational things like resources, conference, facilites moving forward.

Really? You have like one top 200 season in the last decade or something crazy like that and it was a 130 ranked season. We just won the CIT and had a 67 RPI 2 years ago and that was the biggest underachievment I've seen here.

Things clearly change. We pay 3 times what we did the last coach you think this is the same job it was 10 years ago? The CAA with VCU and ODU isn't coming back etc you built that success in 15 years ago either.

Listen to the words of Rick Pitino. UNCW has a history of success and can recruit equally with the top of our conference. THAT is why Keatts came here when other opportunities existed, and those two reasons are why he would never go to EZU. No history of success, and no chance to equally recruit against the top of the conference(at least until they move on. Do you really think Cincy and UConn are happy to be in a conference with EZU?) Do you honestly see recruits choosing EZU over any of those schools? There are multitudes of stories to be found where they are searching high and low to escape. It's only a matter of time.

1. 2013, you won the CIT. Congratulations. LOL

2. Since then you've lost to us TWICE, so...

3. Congratulations. Your football success has worked you into a scenario where you have to over pay your basketball coach due to conference affiliation. Like I said in a prior post, we were able to attract a superior coaching talent for far less money than you over pay Lebo (who by your own words you don't even like).

Also... I've contributed far too much to this little smack session, but I felt it was necessary.

Especially since it will likely be a little while between Anton Gill news updates.

History and dusty trophy's doesn't mean jack, and it's not like you even had this rich history to begin with. What the heck is Wainwright or his 35 year old players doing for your program now or the last decade. Nothing.

Butler had been to one NCAA in by the late 90's less than even we had despite having been a D1 member longer and look where they are now.

All it took was the right coaches and resources and money far more determine you not only getting the ones most likely to succeed but keeping them longer than you normally would and replacing them and that comes from foundational things like money support facilites, conf etc. A coach is just a coach, they take that history with them because it's really theirs.

So?

We also beat Cincy this year. Hell we beat two DWade final 4 / top 10 teams twice. Did that make us a better program? As sad as last year was we still had the better RPI and season than UNCW just like the previous 7 or 8 years.

07-coffee3 Yep you guys are a dream job waiting to happen. Let's look at the facts. The only success you have had was built on a conference that no longer exist like it did with VCU ODU GMU etc. Good luck.
