We must have dropped some real stinkers this year to go 5-1 against the two teams ahead of us and still be this far behind them.

Six teams in the top 64 is pretty good as a conference.

Losses to:

Nicholls State-183
Sam Houston St-187
Texas Tech (x2)-119
Missouri-KC-164
DePaul-163
Colorado St-121
Tennessee-Martin-179
Louisiana-Lafayette-(05-stirthepot)
Abilene Christian-218

Some of these teams we also beat, but we still have a ways to go before our program is back to its glory days.

Louisiana, South Alabama and Ga. State if it ended today are certainly NCAA tournament participants. To have 6 of the 9 teams in the top 64 is impressive.

After the disaster of 2014, I'll take the 60 RPI.

Despite our efforts, the RPI still seems a bit tricky for you. Sure the losses hurt, but its a 25% contribution to your RPI number. The greater affect on your ranking is your crappy schedule, scratch that, the crappy performance of some teams on your schedule.

I don't give a squat where the teams you lost to rank. Some of us Cajun fans had this discussion on RaginPagin last week, RPI rank can be a meaningless number if a team has a decent winning percentage but scheduled poorly. For example, at 140 a team like St. Joseph's is probably a very RPI beneficial team as their record of 18-6 (.75 WP) contributes to 50% of the RPI formula compared to what is assumed to be a bad OWP that they would probably contribute, but only at 25% weighting.

The key for you guys to improve in the RPI is to schedule programs that will most likely win a majority of their games that are not against you. That way you get the W and their overall record contributes nicely to your OWP. The Cajuns have been doing this for a few years now.

To expound on this some more.

Nicholls: 18-13 (.58 WP), despite a rank of 183, they probably aren't hurting you that bad.
SHSU: 9-21 (.3 WP), RPI killer, avoid. I hope our game against them gets rained out.
Texas Tech: 16-20 (.44 WP), their OWP will end up being good by virtue of being in the big 12, but not enough to overcome the bad contribution from their own WP. Not a RPI beneficial team.
Missouri-KC: 19-17 (.53 WP), unless their OWP stinks, they probably aren't the worst team on your schedule RPI-wise.
DePaul: 12-16 (.43 WP), not that great.
Colorado St: 19-16 (.54 WP), similar to UMKC.
Tennessee Martin: 16-15 (.52 WP), despite a 179 rank, they're still around .500 overall. If that were to improve they could be somewhat beneficial.
UL: 27-5 (.84 WP, yeah you're welcome), despite us sweeping you guys, we did so much good for your RPI. We helped balance out that SHSU and Abilene Christian on your schedule and then some.
Abilene Christian: 6-24 (.2 WP, :-0), Yeah stop playing them.

And that's just some of your losses. You have teams that you beat that are doing more to hurt your RPI than help it.

Also just to add. Despite App and Georgia Southern being higher than you in the RPI, they, like SHSU and AC, are RPI stinkers. They are really hurting you guys right now.

You need to look a little more closely at their resume. Yes, they have a good record, a high rpi ranking and a pretty decent non-conference schedule (8 games against teams currently in the top 25), but they haven't done anything yet. Those 8 games are all losses, their best win is against #42 Chattanooga (23-8). They still have a chance to make a statement and get noticed, with road games against the Cajuns (3), Florida State (2) and Georgia, but they will need to beat somebody who is going to be in post season play if they want to join the party.

I agree. They have everything the committee looks for except the "who'd you beat?" factor.

Going to be hard to keep a 37 rpi team out if they can stay around that mark. I hope the Belt can get 3 teams in.
