SBC needs the Rice Bowl to happen so I'm hopeful it can be worked out.

I wonder how long until there are so many bowls, that teams under 6-6 being in a bowl game becomes a regular occurrence?

So, I take it the LRB was able to reach a TV deal. The story states the Arizona bowl has a TV contract, but its a little vague with respect to the LRB TV deal.

Seems like that happened a year or two ago.
I think the SBC can support five bowls. I'm glad we have another to help complete our postseason.

McMurphy: The Little Rock bowl, which would be played at War Memorial Stadium, would pair teams from the American and Sun Belt conferences, sources said. CBS Sports Network or NBC Sports Network is the likely broadcast partner.

I think it was UCLA but got the waiver to play at 6-7 because they played in the PAC12 championship game, which they had lost.

Yeah, there are enough teams to fill this bowl without needing anyone with a losing record. This is a great development for the SBC and the city of Little Rock. A lot of snooty SOBs will talk smack about the bowl but when their team is selected they will go and they will talk about how much fun they experienced. Expect a lot of "I want a BCS bowl against the PAC-12!" nonsense in the meantime.

yeah. I guess I should have clarified. We need an extra bowl, especially out west. So I am glad we may be getting one. My comment was meant to be directed more as a general statement towards bowl games.

This is awesome! How about if we have 65 bowl games so everyone can participate!

As fast as the number of bowls have grown, they will also contract over time. The less attended games, that doesn't produce much interest will lose sponsorship and go away, there are plenty of bowls that only survived 3-5 years and vanished that most of don't even remember. What the SBC needs to is be sure we take as much advantage as we can while the door is open. We must win, win early, win often and win big.

Funny, people keep saying the bowls will contract because of too many bowl. Yet the keep growing and when one folds, it appears there is another one to take it's place.

It wouldn't be necessary if the NCAA went to a more normal bowl eligibility rule and required a 7-5 record. However, the way it works is that every P5 school with 6 wins is getting in, meaning we've got G5 schools who get left out with 7 or 8 wins.

With 5 bowls it would seem EVERY 7-5 Belt team should certainly go bowling now. Texas St. -- you guys should be very happy about this development with a western Belt bowl.

On a side note, CUSA is getting yet ANOTHER bowl that is well out of its footprint. I do not understand their strategy whatsoever. Just grab whatever they can I guess?

CUSA turned down Little Rock last year whenever the original idea fell apart because they thought it would be a virtual home game for the SBC Team.

RE: SBNATION: Sources say Little Rock, Tucson to Apply for Bowl Game
In spite of all the bashing of the Belt I will give credit where it is due. We now will have 5 bowls all in the footprint of the league. Orlando, Montgomery, Mobile, Little Rock and New Orleans. This is very good. What it really good is that pretty much any Belt team who goes 7-5 now WILL GET A BOWL. Good deal.

The only think I wish is that the league mandated that 7-5 teams go bowling over 6-6 teams. If a team is left out it should be a 6-6 team.

But all in all I feel pretty confident that teh Belt can fill its 5 slots each year.

Getting the AAC is a big coup for Little Rock. Having ASU or Monroe playing against Memphis, Tulsa, or SMU should bring a real nice crowd to Little Rock. If the whether is decent, visiting fans will enjoy the River Market District, visiting the Clinton Library, etc. A great 3-4 hour TV advertisement for our city as well. Not sure if we can find a spot for a day game- Likely to be much warmer and more comfortable if the sun is out and shining.

Maybe the mwc approached them? Regardless, CUSA has a nice lineup for sure
