What will be the pecking order for the 5 bowls next year as far as who they pick?

I am assuming 1. New Orleans 2. Mobile then what?

Sounds like a good add for the conference.

Seems like that happened a year or two ago.
I think the SBC can support five bowls. I'm glad we have another to help complete our postseason.

yeah. I guess I should have clarified. We need an extra bowl, especially out west. So I am glad we may be getting one. My comment was meant to be directed more as a general statement towards bowl games.

I think we exceeded the number of bowls that are "needed" by about 20.

I'd honestly be happy (even though it would make our first bowl more difficult) if the top 2 teams from every conference got a bowl invite, and that's it. That might be overkill, but those bowls would be SPECIAL.

I agree, too many bowls...they've definitely lost their luster

Maybe we should go back to four. Rose, Sugar, Cotton, and Orange, the original big four. Never too much opportunities for our players. Everyone is totally free to ignore and embrace these bowls. Like the NCAA basketball tournament the smaller schools would be shut out with reductions.

If every other G5 conference has 5,6 or 7 bowls then the Sun Belt should also.

CUSA turned down Little Rock last year whenever the original idea fell apart because they thought it would be a virtual home game for the SBC Team.

Maybe the mwc approached them? Regardless, CUSA has a nice lineup for sure

If you guys want to play in Tuscon, go ahead. I'd rather all of our bowls stay within driving distance of our main fan base.

If the whether is decent, visiting fans will enjoy the River Market District, visiting the Clinton Library, etc. A great 3-4 hour TV advertisement for our city as well. Not sure if we can find a spot for a day game- Likely to be much warmer and more comfortable if the sun is out and shining.

Is the dress displayed there? Sorry, had to ask.

Say what you will about the bowls becoming too watered down (I think arguments either or can be made), I know that I will be there regardless if ASU is in it or not-very excited about this is becoming an actual possibility!

I know the Ga. Southern fans will be excited to go to our first bowl, wherever it is. Hopefully we can make this happen this year.

I would not trade bowl lineups with them.

RE: SBNATION: Sources say Little Rock, Tucson to Apply for Bowl Game
Heart of Dallas vs. Big XII/Big Ten is the only one I'd trade for. They can have Tucson, Hawaii, and the Bahamas.

As to bowl contraction. Here are the last bowls to shut down.

Little Caesar's forced to close when Ford Field evicted them to start a new Big Ten vs. ACC game.
International. Unable to recertified because they could not find two leagues willing to deal with the passport and customs issues.
Silicon Valley. Chronically underfunded barely met financial requirements to even get certified the final year (made deadline by hours). Troy vs. NIU finale in a cold rain was the final straw for a game depending heavily on ticket sales in California.
Seattle Bowl. The former Oahu Bowl moved for financial reasons. Met financial requirements deadline for final year by two hours. After collapse was discovered to not even operated with a valid business license final two years.
Galleryfurniture/Houston Bowl. Went belly up replaced by Texas Bowl the next season.

Orlando, Montgomery, Mobile, Little Rock and New Orleans. This is very good. What it really good is that pretty much any Belt team who goes 7-5 now WILL GET A BOWL. Good deal.

The only think I wish is that the league mandated that 7-5 teams go bowling over 6-6 teams. If a team is left out it should be a 6-6 team.

But all in all I feel pretty confident that teh Belt can fill its 5 slots each year.

Good luck getting the bowls to want to go along with that mandate. If the choice is between the 6-6 team with good home attendance and within half a day driving time, then the bowl will want that team way way more than the 7-5 with crappy attendance and 10 hours drive away.
Sorta reminds me of when the MUTS had a complaint back in 2012. stAte was the champ UL, MUTS, and ULM all had 8-4 records, WKU was at 7-5. MUTS stayed home. NO wanted Cajuns again, Indy wanted ULM for similar reason NO wanted us, GoDaddy wanted stAte again, and WKU went to Detroit. Now I will admit that part of it was due to geography (attendance between the MUTS and WKU was close to equal) as WKU is slightly closer to Detroit than the MUTS, but it was also the MUTS' final year in the league, so the SBC wasn't going to try very hard to get them in one of our limited number of bowls.

RE: SBNATION: Sources say Little Rock, Tucson to Apply for Bowl Game
I can't argue with CajunFan.

When there were a VERY select few bowls, it made sense that it was for the "best of the best" and record should be the driving factor.

Now that bowls are so numerous, it's really just the cash grab (I know before it was a cash grab too, but I think you see what I'm driving at). That means taking the teams that will generate the most loot for the bowls and communities.

The P5 can force the hand of a bowl like that... Sun Belt doesn't have that luxury. If the Sun Belt can string together a handful of seasons of being the top rated G5 conference, and we pull in gaudy numbers for the bowls during that time, we might be able to have that sway, but right now, we just don't have that kind of stroke.

If both teams had six FBS wins, the head-to-head winner would be the logical choice.

Which means we could have access to another bowl or two that they can't fill due to not enought bowl eligible teams.

Since this is about the only bowl that is regional to Tulsa, SMU, Houston, Tulane, and Memphis most years Little Rock isn't likely to get shorted. The worry for us is they short the Cure Bowl because we'd end up playing a MAC most likely and not gain a slot we could put an excess team in.

Or a 11th or 12th place P5 school.

I think you can scratch TooLame from your most likely candidates. And if they do accept on occasion there will be no fan support. They barely can muster bowl support at the NOLA.
