It makes a lot of sense adding another Western Bowl seeing Texas teams run this conference.

They do?

Definitely another win for the conference. Tuscon is a great location and the fact we are playing a MWC team just makes it that much better. Glad we got this instead of the crap bowl with the Sunbelt in Arkansas that the American is getting.

And it is after Christmas, although on Fox Sports or CBS Sports rather than ESPN.

This is a win. C-USA gets an after Christmas game against the MWC while the AAC is playing in two more games versus the Sunbelt. Those slots against the Sunbelt are no-win.

Yeah, who would want to play a team like the Cajuns in front of 50,000 in New Orleans. Stupid.

So if Ark St joins soon will the LR bowl become C-USA vs AAC?

Tucson (a 4 1/2 hour drive from El Paso) will make 7 bowls plus a possible 8th since C-USA is secondary in the Indy Bowl. Can we provide that many bowl teams? Obviously UTEP will be bowling every year from now on but I don't know about the rest of you.05-stirthepot

Perhaps. But I gotta believe even Rice fans could drag their butts to New Orleans.

It's hard to proclaim your dominance over the rest of the G5, when you keep getting whipped by the Sunbelt in New Orleans, which is the message I intended. Sunbelt has been tough on C-USA in New Orleans! I think Arkansas State will be a very difficult opponent for anyone in Little Rock, too.

I do not understand why so many struggle with the concept of 40,000 plus Cajun fans in the SuperDome when we average 24,000 at home games.

First off, we are talking about a bowl game in a party city with festivities spread over several days.....I think everyone can grasp the fact that Cajun fans love a party.

But more importantly is the distrubution of Cajun alumni across S. Louisiana. Lemme splain. When I attended USL a hundred years ago, the great majority of students in my dorm were from the New Orleans area, the Florida parishes (north shore) and the river parishes....Houma, Thibodeaux, etc....in other words, SE Louisiana.

The majority of those fans are not going to make a 2 hour drive to Lafayette to watch the Cajuns on a typical Saturday evening, but will make the trip to New Orleans for the game and the associated parties. It really is a simple concept.

I owe you an apology ESE84. It is so rare to see a rational, sane thought posted here in reference to a Sunbelt opponent that your meaning zoomed right over my headbone.

I would agree that on average, Arkansas State would prove to be a tough opponent in a bowl game played in their back yard.

No problem. I was typing fast. I had Rice all set for the New Orleans game in 2012 and made my travel plans. When we were selected for Fort Worth instead, we still made the trip and saw the Cajuns paint New Orleans red that day (and post a big W over East Carolina). Sunbelt teams have defeated Memphis, Southern Mississippi, Rice, East Carolina and Tulane in New Orleans.

I also fondly remember the 1999 baseball superregional with the Cajuns at the Astrodome. Always impressed by your fans. You would be a welcome addition to C-USA West in my book.

CajunFanatico, remind me again of which conference has never had a ranked team. I have nothing against the SB but to get right down to it most MWC schools are more desirable to play than most SB schools. That's just fact.

Did see Tech stomped ULL in the ground in Lafayette and I wouldn't go that far with Arky State

And I never said otherwise. Actually, I agree. The Cajuns would rather play the MWC in New Orleans than what we have mostly faced to date.

Tucson is a really cool city and should be a great desitination for a bowl game.
