RE: Making the tourney lie!
When you have top 10 recruiting classes, and a roster full of top 100 players, in a non P5 league, you should go to the NCAA Tournament.

Most new coaches wouldn't have been able to get all those players; much less a coach with no D1 experience. The flip side is a better bench coach who doesn't recruit as well, who takes 3-4 years to make the tournament.

Pastner's first 4 1/2 seasons were really good. The end to last season was a disappointment and this year was a disappointment. Pastner went all in with last year's group and it didn't work out.

You can't blame him one bit for trying, but you can blame him for the result and the situation it left us in this year.

I always give him total credit for his recruiting.

I do recognize that it helped keep the program ahead of the rest of CUSA for sure.

He's come back to the pack in the AAC, but we will see what he does in the offseason.

So 68 out of 351 schools make the big dance, and that isn't an accomplishment? Hrmmmmm.... That is 19% of the schools in all Division 1. It is a pretty big deal. Some teams get in off there name alone (UCLA, Texas, I would even say MIch State with there record)

There are 5 power conference and a couple others that have decent basketball.

So, this year there were 33 teams in the tourney from "power" conferences.

There are only 65 P5 schools, so 51% of all P5 schools were in the tournament. Memphis considers itself on the level of P5 schools.

My impression was that you and others implied that anyone could have recruited at that level, so I am surprised to read this. In a perfect world, Pastner had 6 years for his bench coaching, management skills to catch up to his recruiting skills. If he managed to do this, his recruiting would have stayed very strong, and his improvements on the bench would have lead to better results.

Everything was on track until March of last year. Since then it has been a disaster.

Memphis benefited from many good years with Calapari. They are not however a P5 program.

No my thoughts are that pretty much anyone good would've gotten the Memphis kids - or some mix of Memphis kids - if they didn't get Joe, they would've signed Chris Jones instead, etc - that kind of deal. JW3 instead of Nick King or whatever. Point being, most competent coaches would've done fine recruiting the city.

But I do give credit to Pastner for his recruiting outside of the city for sure and for his recruiting of JUCOs, for the most part. I think on the JUCO standpoint, the staff did really well mining the top 10 up to last year - they seem to be rolling the dice a bit more of late though.

Like I said in another thread buried somewhere on the Org, outside of Calipari, it hasn't been the norm at Memphis to sign top 50 kids from Atlanta and Baltimore, so Pastner gets full credit.

We have some of the silliest, most uninformed fans. They will say ANYTHING even if it has no basis in fact; just because they hate Pastner.[/b]

Because the RPI isn’t the only considered metric, and the NCAA SC has pointed this out for years now. Tulsa won CUSA and swept Memphis this season. Hello?

I don’t know what’s up with you and your We hate Pastner agenda, but you need to get over it. With the ^ ^ ^ “[/b]” placed you wanted to embolden it but screwed up. So I’ll do it for you, K?

You are an outsider and have the nerve to call Memphis fans “Some of the Silliest, most Uninformed fans” is totally disrespecting our fanbase & OUR program.

Out of line and uncool…even for a mentally ill troll.

RE: Making the tourney lie!
Again- everyone wanted a more successful season this immediate past year- even while expecting it to be down during a rebuilding year- especially when the best player went down late.

Most want more than making the tournament yet not making the Sweet Sixteen.

Not sure it is fair to attribute any success we had solely to a signature player or two...but there have certainly been some less than hoped for results...to date...with Pastner so far.

Simply refuse to buy into the theme that the results have been that bad...or that the overall results are this worthy of giving up as well as being so mocking, nasty and disparaging. Always spinning the worst is an example of that.

Board was a fun addition to following Tiger sports. That fun is leaving as it has become nothing but a bash and mock snark fest...that comment sure to bring bashing, mocking and snark (even if ignored).
