MyBB Serious Question?
What makes us so different from UL? Aside from the obvious, that UL has a National Championship.....But in recent history, we defeated UL twice. The year before that, we lost to them (at the time ranked #4) @ FEF after taking a commanding lead (by almost 30) Only to have the lead squandered by refs, making phantom calls against Geron & DJ while simultaneously allowing UL to hack and be extremely aggressive on the defensive end and swallowing whistles....So minus the "fupah" taken away by the refs JP would domin8 in the series vs Petino..

That being said, during that very short timeframe UL has dismissed players, crescendoed to a tougher conference and simultaneously, mid-year, lost the starting point-guard....Not to mention, during the broadcast today......coach Petino mentioned (during their run to bring them within range) that "if his team had better shooters, that we would be a dangerous team"

So once again, JP's record against Petino suggests that we are at least competitively talent wise to UL.

Petino has also suspended/dismissed key players from the team

UL faces tougher competition in a new conference and have had to adjust

UL is a subpar shooting % team from the perimeter

UL has 7 freshmen; 4 sophomores; 1 Junior;1 senior on this years roster making them one of the youngest teams in the tourney http://www.gocards.com/sports/m-baskbl/m...l-mtt.html

This illustrates to me that based on our similar situations....should they be just as much in rebuilding mode as Memphis?

UL is still playing, as an E8 team.....What is the difference here???

Josh has two BIG wins v Petino just last year though and we were stomping UL @ FEF when they were ranked #4, only to have the game robbed by refs.....That would have made Josh 3-0 against Petino! How can the difference be coaching then?????? Doesn't wins equate to coaching success???

RE: Serious Question?
IMO, it's about matchups. The Tigers matched up well with L'Ville. L'Ville played the type of game best suited for the Tigers. Their offense wasn't that motion type offense with high screens that the Tigers struggled to guard all year. They also liked to press which sped the game up and I think that played into the Tigers' favor. I do believe Pitino felt he could out-coach CJP and he didn't do that.

RE: Serious Question?
Serious Answer

One caveat. Most of the good coaches and even the great ones in college basketball 'cut their teeth' at other programs, many times at lesser ones and learned from them before moving on and achieving greater success. To be fair, this is Josh first job......the hope by many supporters were that he'll learned and get better. Pitino is a Hall of Fame coach but he had the privilege to learned on the way from Hawaii, Boston U, the NBA before taken Providence and Kentucky and Louisville to FINAL Fours and eventually winning National Championships. Same way with Coach K, who learned coaching at Army and was nearly fired from Duke before he finally turned it around. Now I'm not saying that Josh is going to be a Hall of Famer or anywhere near Pitino or any good coach for that matter but most solid coaches weren't instant success off the bat. Maybe if Josh leaves then he might have greater success at his next gig; if he stays, he might can turn it around next year, I don't know because anything is possible and sports is so unpredictable even when we think we know how it's going to turn out. I'm not here arguing about should he stay or should he go (no pun) but just offering a caveat
