Many say, if we were to fire Pastner, we wouldnt get a decent replacement since he's made the NCAA's 4 of the 6 years; so it only stands to reason Texas will struggle to fill their job after canning Barnes. No rational coach would take the Texas gig.

Well, OK, if you're tying to make some sort of point, but, outside of that, this is kind of ridiculous. Texas will have very good options.

Maybe so. I'm a little slow today.

Texas will get a great coach. But, just to give you all some food for thought....here is what I think pushed
it over the top for Barnes. When Texas A&M lands the #3 recruiting class in the nation and....all four players
are from Texas (Dallas area) ....that is not good if you are a UT head basketball coach. Here is the link. Oh, and
my granddaughter just got accepted at Texas A&M and is heading there.....starting school in July.

You can make $2.65M a year at Memphis, never even come close to the sweet 16, have all the job security in the world, and even have a handful of idiots praise your failures.

Incorrect. Pastner's job security is eroding away, and he knows it.

I think most of the Pastner supporters are just getting beaten down by all the negativity. He actually had one more NCAA win than Calipari in his first five years, but Cal righted the ship in a big way in Year Six. Pastner took a huge step back.

The one exception is that guy who posts glowingly positive predictions of the future using excessively long paragraphs with odd punctuation. He's either a genius, an attendee at the TN Prison for the Criminally Insane, or both.

No point now but to wait and see what happens.

I've heard countess national writers write or say that it is one of the best jobs because you have an unlimited budget with no real pressure to do anything. Heck, no one shows up to their basketball games until after New Year's

I would think Texas would be a great job. Lots of local talent, great place to live. Relatively little pressure with reguards to a BB school. I know they fired Barnes, probably because he could never get beyond a certain point, but they gave him almost 20 years.

We will see just how serious they are. They could throw football numbers at Cal. He would take that, he ego could never say no to an offer like that. I don't think they are that serious about basketball personally, but they have the money.

Right now they need a distraction from the shinanigins in Foosball. .....The ability to do that is,as they say, PRICELESS. .......Stay tuned

There's pressure anywhere if you're making the kind of money it will take to hire Gregg Marshall.

I think, Kentucky, Kansas, Duke ect live in fear of Texas, Alabama and other football powerhouses taking basketball seriously. Right now they are the big fish in the small pond and they like it that way.

That is a very interesting thought. If Cal wins out, what price? Why shouldn't we see an unprecedented bidding war?

A friend of mine wondered out loud if Alford doesn't go to Indiana and Cal to UCLA.

Texas has had a great run under Barnes, he did what it took to get there, they just need someone that can get to the Elite 8 every couple of years and Texas has the resources, facilities and talent in the state to do just that.

and they always have.....that's what is so perplexing why their football and basketball teams aren't better year in and year out

+1

Barnes taking UT to the tourney 16 out of the last 17 years is like taking the football team to a small bowl every year and a New Year's Day bowl half a dozen times during that - he was Mack without the National Championship. I'd actually compare him to Josh: recruited well, ran a pretty clean program, did just enough to keep his job, but never fully met his potential.

But for the right coach, Texas could be a Duke or Kansas very quickly.
