I agree completely. If the signs are pointing toward UAB not reviving football, there is no reason for CUSA to give UAB a grace period. They should be out July 1.

Well, we just gave them a reason last week. UAB is their best shot to get in the tournament and make the conference money next year.

Ummmm, that is very pompous of you to believe such a thing. I'm sure La Tech fans felt the same way before the season started and look at how that turned out. No need to be brash about our first NCAA Tourney win in 10 years. Stay classy my Blazer brethren!

Watts had to keep coach Hasse. Watts had no leverage but during the negotiations Watts was thinking he could keep his job. Recent news dictates Watts will be gone. Blazer fans are happy that the extension was offered and announced before Watts resigns. Very good for UAB. Watts gets no credit due to his documented lies being published the same week.
I predict Watts will be gone soon!

This really seems like Watts shoveling dirt onto the UAB Blazers Football program's grave as quickly as he can.

Exactly what it is.

Wait a week. Banowsky may be dealing with a different administration.

Representative Jack Williams gave UAB fans incriminating documents. Ray Watts gave the fans a Million dollar basketball coach. I love it when parents try to prove who loves the kids more.

I guess the bar has been set. Clark could get that on next extension.
I would say we could raise millions in a drive to fire Ray Watts and replace the BOT.
We have much potential in Birmingham. We should not waste it.

Except he did state that the budget wasn't going to change very much without football, meaning that the money for football would be invested in other areas. It seems that is now the case with the salary increases and facility improvements in basketball.

Honest question and not trolling one bit...If there was all this support for UAB...why is it only showing up now? And if Football comes back...how quick would the fanbase be to settle back into the lull that caused this mess in the first place? Potential in sports is a four letter word.

UAB had three crowds over 27,000 this last season. That doesn't seem very common in C-USA, Sun Belt, or MAC other than a few select teams. Our in-state brothers down in Troy have only had one crowd that large in their 100-whatever year history.

Birmingham tends to find other things to do than watch a 2-10 Callaway/Mcgee led teams. They like winning football. Our attendance was just as high in 2004 as it was in 2014. The years between is where the problem was.

Our football team was effectively dead when Callaway was hired over Jimbo Fischer in 2007. The BOT just had to let it flounder around long enough to make people think it couldn't be successful.

From 2007 - 2013, the years that Callaway/Mcgee were head coaches here: 27.3 % winning percentage (Most of those being D1aa wins). If UAB had it's own board of trustees Callaway would have never been coach here. He was forced upon us.

Also, Mike Anderson would have been at UAB much longer if he would have actually been paid the money he earned by going to the sweet 16, 11 years ago. The Board of trustees owed him something like 600,000 that he had to go to court to get. That's why he ran away so quickly to Mizzou.

UAB paid Mike Anderson $800,000 plus incentives which took it over 1 million dollars so it's not like UAB can't afford to pay Haase this amount of money.

But this is not about money, this is a PR move by Watts and his hire PR firm.

The interview linked in this tweet sounds like Haase believes UAB will be changing conferences.

If UAB is not serious about getting football going by 2016, no need to keep them beyond June 30.

No it doesn't sound like that at all. But Haase is saying UAB needs to be prepared to find a new home if we aren't allowed to stay in CUSA. Haase is hopeful for another season in CUSA though.

Well I guess it depends on the ear of the beholder. He said there is a possibility that UAB will be in C-USA this next year (meaning there is also a possibility they won't) and that UAB will be aggressive in finding the right conference for not only basketball but the rest of their sports too. That sounds to me like he is leaning to the side of having to relocate.

There is a possibility we will be or won't be. Haase is hopeful UAB Admins are preparing for either scenario. He never said, "I don't think we'll be in CUSA next season." You're insinuating my man. And Haase is damn right if UAB isn't in CUSA next season our leaders better be aggressively pursuing the right conference for our other sports.

"I think the conversations with Conference USA have been good. I think there's a possibility we'll be in there for another year. Certainly it's not locked in yet but the conversations are ongoing there."

"I will say that I think UAB is going to be aggressive in finding the right conference for not only men's basketball but for the entire athletic department."

That's not insinuating. That's a pretty strong, unambiguous statement.
