I will say that I am extremely disappointed with the lack of fans that both MTSU and WKU have brought to Huntington.

Honestly expected both of you to bring double of what you did.

The WKU game was the morning of BLACK FRIDAY! And I think it snowed overnight , considering I thought WKU brought a respectable crowd

That was THE game nationally that day. I felt bad that MU missed out on going to a CFP bowl. They have a great fan base and all, but gee, Doughty and the Tops being talked about on Fox1 and ESPN...

To me that's an example of a successful year one in CUSA - compared to the last several in the Sun Belt. We where 8-4 in 2013 and no one knew it. The SB only had 2 bowl tie in's. The darn Go Daddy took ASU (who we just beat and had a better record) over us. I hated the Sun Belt, their crappy bowl tie-ins, their empty arenas, their non-existant fan support, etc. I'm proud to be in CUSA!

I like what WKU brings to the table, but would really hope that they can build their football attendance. I imagine you will get several TV games this year and your crowd, and how the games look on tv, will be important to the conference and perception.

Agreed. It's a relatively young fan base which just completed it's seventh year in D1 - and about 15 years removed from almost killing football due to financial issues. We've got a President and AD who are committed to getting it done and there's no doubt we've come along way but we gotta start creating the buzz. I hope Doughty or someone can become our first Pennington/Parker/Moss/Leftwich/etc

I didn't realize you have only been D1 for around 7 years.

Yep. In 2008 we went 2-10 and most non athletic types thought going D1 was a huge mistake. Heck back in 1999, the Board of Regents, against huge opposition, voted something like 5-4 to keep the program going. To me WKU owes a large debt to Coach Jack Harbaugh and his two sons for helping the program rebuild from the ashes.

Yes WKU is a really new program to FBS still.....Last 4 seasons we have been going in the right direction, I hope next season is the one special season we have been missing so far in FBS...

In retrospect, I'll stand by my vote of "Just Blah". In order to move up the scale, WKU will have to match what ODU brings to the conference.....

.....such as this

Honestly expected both of you to bring double of what you did.

Considering it was black Friday and snowing the day before and about 30 degrees and our basketball team playing in NY the night before...

Western did have about 300 to 400 fans at that game

Some of us even made it to the game while being at the basketball game in the Garden the night before. That is one drive I will never do again...

leaving NYC at 6;30PM on Thanksgiving, driving through a blizzard at the top of a MT. in Maryland at 2900 feet praying to God to just lets us make it down without dying.

But if that disappointed you you must have been really disappointed with your own fanbase...the butts in the seats was not close to the listed attendance of 23576 and this was a team 11-0 at the time

Now if you're talking basketball again there was a snow storm calling for 3 or 4 inches. But still Western had more (50 to 70) at the game more than any CUSA team brought to Diddle this year.

Just like in football I will never make the same drive... 27 hours total

we left 80 degree and sunshine in Ft Lauderdale to make this game then drive back to Ft Lauderdale.

I think the football game would have had a few hundred more if played on a Saturday and decent weather. I honestly can't see over 600 Western fans ever making the drive to any game in CUSA other than MUTS.

In my opinion the list for most Western FB fans will be like this...

MUTS
UAB (hopefully)
Marshall/S. Miss
FIU/FAU
Rice
Charlotte
UTSA
UNT
ODU
Tech
UTEP

For basketball
MUTS
FIU/FAU
UAB
Marshall
Charlotte
the TX schools (other than UTEP)
ODU
Tech/S.Miss
UTEP

If I had voted I would have v...just blah. I expected better in football and top 3 in basketball

Like others have said, I voted "Just, bleh" because there was no "About what I expected". I considered WKU a great and natural addition and they lived up to that, but didn't do anything to "Wow".

I think WKU, has been a very impressive addition especially for a conference where east and west affiliation balance is so critical due to travel and a conference trying to maintain a viable regional footprint despite continued membership fluctuation. Thus I voted that way. In football they handed Marshall their lone defeat, (a game that SI ranked as it's 20th "Top Game" of the 2014 season) and other than Marshall were the only team on the Eastern side of the ledger to have an overall record over .500 in football. They also went to and won a bowl in their first C-USA season, and ranked 2nd in stadium capacity attendance in football. In Men's basketball they might not have been as dominate as in past years, but they were in the upper echelon. Women's Basketball and Volleyball won the C-USA in their first year.

If I recall, pretty sure MTSU had a similar thread to this after their first season....

Its the off season, wanted to get other CUSA fans opinions on first season...Its not like WKU is going to be in a new conference every season, if you don't like it, don't read it!

I'd say NONE OF THE ABOVE.

I expected WKU to have solid basketball and they were competitive in football. Great addition and look forward to our future in CUSA.
