Update from AAC spring practices
"McNeill also announced that senior OL Will Foxx, junior transfer RB Chris Mangus and redshirt freshman OLB/DL Markel Winters have been dismissed from the program because of team rule violations"

Well that's not good.

Last year #Memphis had the largest spring football game crowd in the #American with an estimated 7,400 fans. Last night they had 9,650. #AAC

Ucf never gives spring game attendance, but it is always estimated near 10k.

RE: Update from AAC spring practices
The Houston offense was 100% improved over last years spring game when it was completely ineffective (the first hint that the UTSA disaster was coming). Just one more indication of just how incompetent the staff Levine assembled was when it came to designing and installing an offense. The talent has always been solid, with a competent coaching staff we will definitely be a factor next year. We are going to be pretty good on offense. If the defense is anywhere near where it was last year, we have a real shot to win the AAC.

RE: Update from AAC spring practices
after reading online reports the summary is, new coaches bring in new qbs to takeover bad to medicore teams but old qbs end up winning the job anyways, dane evans (tulsa) matt davis (smu) and greg ward (houston) seem to have all but won their spots as starting qb jobs

benkert at ecu and holman at ucf also seem to have locked up their qb spots aswell

meaning very team at this point has a player thas officially estabilished as #1 qb..

I thought it was closer to 5,000 than 6,000 but perhaps you are right there. We had so many false starts it was tough to determine exactly what our offense looked like. Matt Davis did play pretty well

3rd Ward Defense still looks solid and nobody in the AAC will be able to catch Ward if he has to scramble.

Dear Opponents

AAC spread out offenses are going to drive nuts, get plenty of rest before games, you're going to need it.

I would say its a little of both. The offense should be lethal and the defense is still a work in progress.

I think this will be Dane's year to shine. He has a ton of threats to throw to and a system that seems to suit him. I expect he will be one of the most improved players in the AAC.

Nah... we're good.

We'll just keep doing what we're doing.

Things to take away from this.

-Holman is the man. He's learned a bit of touch on his throws in the offseason, and he seems to take care of the ball. That's all you need in an O'Leary offense. The fact that he has a crazy, hail mary throwing arm is just gravy

-Chris Williams (CB, RS FR) is legit. Could be a good base to rebuild the back 4 with. Rashard Causey, Brandon Scott, Kyle Gibson, and Mike Rogers are some of the highest rated DB recruits in the conference and are all (except Gibson, who's already here) coming in this fall. Really exciting position group to watch grow. Should be lock-down by next year (2016).

-Don't know if the O-Line is that bad or the D-Line is that good, but the entire D-Line was in the backfield all day. D-Line certainly made it look good. Time will tell.

-RB woes continue (granted Stanback is out for the spring). Dontravious Wilson was mediocre but Taj McGowan impressed for a true freshman. Hope they all push the competition.

-WR Akins seems to have made some improvement. He's got TE size with WR speed (sorta). His calling card seems to be Yards After Catch through momentum. On that note, we had a lot more TE passing plays than I can recall since Nissley was on the team back in '10. Miller has been making strong catches all spring, and Cal Bloom's name has been thrown around a bit. If the new WR's aren't up to snuff, it may be an option.

Speaking of the new WR's, if you watched the video, #80 (Tre'Quan Smith) made a catch that reminded me of Rannel Hall's catch in a prior FIU game Link. Very promising. We still have Tristan Payton who's expected to start day 1 anyhow. Hope we can build up some depth.
