I've always said the heart of college basketball is in the tri-state -- UC, Xavier, Dayton, Ohio State, Indiana, Butler, Notre Dame, Purdue, Louisville, and Kentucky are all fantastic basketball programs and it shows in the TV ratings for Cincy, Columbus, Indianapolis, etc.

ECU basketball needs to capitalize on that Raleigh-Durham and Greensboro crowd.

You guys have the same problem we have -- crowded market. Take a look at the list of schools I mentioned in my previous post and you'll see why fan support at Cincinnati isn't top tier. Competing with Duke, UNC, North Carolina State, and Wake Forest for fans is no walk in the park either.

If we thought losing Louisville's elite sports programs was a major hit to the AAC -- losing their TV market might have been an even bigger hit. But it was always going to be difficult keeping a top tier program like Louisville around.

Give them something worth watching and there is a lot of potential there. ECU has and continues to miss the boat here.

I'll admit I've watched most of the NCAA tournament and a lot of the NIT games...I can't get enough college hoops.

As I recall Memphis has been an overall top 10 college ESPN market for a number of years now. I think we were the #3 overall market last year.

Next year or the year after the Cincy-Dayton markets combine to make one.

I'm surprised Madison County TN (Jackson) isn't part of the Memphis DMA...that's 93k extra folks.

^ Memphis is DMA #50, Jackson TN is #176

Charlotte not being a top 10 hoops market is shocking

There is no set date for the Cincinnati-Dayton merge. It may or may not happen in the next couple years.

if that happens, we should get Jackson TN...that would move Memphis to the 39-40 range.

Jackson TN is 1 hour, or 65 miles from the edge of Memphis (wolfchase area)

Dayton OH is around that far from Cincy.

With your logic, ECU should be in the Raleigh-Durham market

Downtown Cincy and downtown Dayton are less than an hour apart and there is so much development along I-75 between the two cities that you literally can't tell where one metro area ends and the other begins. 59 minutes, 52.8 miles, extensive development between two cities vs. 1 hour and 20 minutes, 88.4 miles, and very little development between two cities. Apples and oranges.

This is a proposed merger of the TV markets. The northern tip of the Cincinnati DMA is in Middletown. The southern tip of the Dayton DMA is in Springboro. That is 9.17 miles apart.

The cities suburbs now touch, that is why they've been predicting this for a while. The northern most suburbs of Cincinnati extend all the way to the southern most Dayton suburbs. On a side note, I'm in the southern Dayton suburbs.

And Hartford-New Haven gets NYC.

We win.
