Wouldn't be surprised to see criminal charges coming out of this at some point: ethics violations, misuse of public funds, fraud, etc.

Totally disgusting, yet not surprising. I am so happy these two-bit thugs got caught red-handed. Given this I believe C-USA should quickly take whatever steps necessary to ensure UAB'S status as a member of the conference.

This still stinks for UAB.

If they do bring back UAB football, it'll be like starting from scratch.

True, but if this gets them out of the yoke of the UA BoT then at least some good will have come from it.

I don't think they will necessarily start from scratch. I think they'll recruit a bit better by telling their story and their fans will be reinvigorated. The university is also gonna go on an apology tour that includes an on campus stadium. Not to mention the money their alumni are gonna dump in. This was the worst/best thing that could have happened to UAB.

Actually it won't be like starting from scratch. Too much to go into now. (We still have over 45 guys on campus as well)

I'm not at all surprised by this information.

I am a little surprised that it's managed to get out (pleasantly surprised).

Go get him Blazers.

This is the biggest risk to keeping UAB.

C-USA will have become the league of start ups.

It would be almost half the league that has started or restarted football since 2000.

Yes it will.

Even with those kids most of your good players transferred out.

About the only thing that you wouldn't be starting from scratch would be the physical infrastructure but frankly that's probably the one thing that you would most want to start over with including a stadium and other football facilities.

I think it may help UAB in the long run. They did well this season, but the program could use some reinvigoration, and this may be the catalyst for that.

Key word bolded. Short term is going to be a blood bath for them to restart unless they are either forced or volunarily elect to go through a transition phase.

Since they won't play in '15, does the break service mean the NCAA would force them to "start over" and be forced to go through the development and transition periods like Charlotte just went through?

Yeah, doesn't it seem like the PR firm might want to start looking around for a PR firm to advise them on how to handle covering up their role in all this?

Yea but what about coaches and such? I'd assume most of already went elsewhere.

I personally like UAB.. I hope football comes back.. I just fear that'll be a long rebuild and like starting from scratch. It'd been nice for the team to build off this past season.

A start up UAB is much better than any of the other alternatives out there. Charlotte and ODU all brought something to the table that CUSA needed and others didn't have. Just because they started or restarted football a little late doesn't mean they aren't quality programs that will strengthen CUSA in the LONG RUN.

Agreed. As long as we fill all of our bowls we will be fine in football while UAB gets back up to speed. We filled all of them last year and ODU, MTSU, and UAB won enough games to go to bowls.

I don't disagree with that at all. But I think I speak for most fan bases when I say this. We're all more concerned with where we are right now and what we're going to accomplish in the near term - next three years or so than we are the long run. The train is still moving and won't slow down for anyone or anything. You're either improving or being left behind. The lack of history and tradition for a sport that is almost solely built on history and tradition makes it difficult for us to cut into the share without it and we - as a league - don't have much of it.
