We have been a #1 seed a couple of times, the overall #1 seed once, and the closest we played was Little Rock, not exactly friendly territory.
2006 we played in Dallas which was closer than any other site.
2007 we played in New Orleans which was closer than any other site.
2008 we played in Little Rock which was closer than any other site.
2009 we played in Kansas City which was closer than any other site.
I know our chances are limited to Nashville or Knoxville, but my original point was that NC always seems to host somewhere and Duke is nearly always there.
Explanations have been presented to address that.
The main explanation remains: Duke is Duke, and the rest of us aren't. It is just another inequity that has been woven into the fabric of College BB.
We can pretty much see why Calipari wanted to swing it away from the blue bloods, but in the end had to join them to beat them all. lol.
I am not even sure if I would rather see Duke win more than KY, if WVA, Wisconsin, Wichita State, Irish, Michigan State, NC, Gonzaga can't come through.

The last time they went to the final four they opened in Jacksonville.

Data was only available for those two years?
LMAO.
Askew should have shot more in 85

But keep in mind, too, that UNC is more often than not there too. So a great portion of the crowd is built in rooting against Duke.
Those carolina ACC fans aren't like the redneck SEC ilk who cheer "conference over rivalry." No self respecting Duke/UNC fan will cheer for the other because "it looks good for the conference."
Hell, last year Memphis blew a huge opportunity location-wise. I think there was a first round in Nashville, a regional in St. Louis and the FF in Atlanta.
From what I can gather, the driving distance to Nashville is a little over 3 hours; which would make Greenville, SC slightly longer, but in the same ballpark for Duke.
I counted that as a neutral site, but that would definitely be heavily weighted as a home game for Duke and at the very least would be in ACC territory. Our game in Nashville would be in $EC territory.

Good lord.
The point is that those three cities would all have been easy travel destinations and easy for the fanbase to make. If you've ever been to an NCAA game, few locals are going to the games...it is mostly comprised of the eight schools that are brought to the region.

Again I say, people focus too much of their hate on Duke. UNC is far more despicable. Ask any NC State fan.

RE: Does Duke ever play outside of Carolina in the opening rounds?
Good explanations, but haters gonna hate.
Seeds 1-4 (Protected seeds) play close to home in the Pod system...It just so happens that there is normally a site in North Carolina
The ncaa tries to put seeds 1-4 near home as much as they can.
But keep in mind, too, that UNC is more often than not there too. So a great portion of the crowd is built in rooting against Duke.
I guess I dont understand why North Carolina has at least one site EVERY DANG YEAR.
they [North Carolina] have a site every year because they historically support college basketball and they have sites big enough and wanting to bid on the tourney in multiple locations. Hence why there is one NC site every year in the sites announced for 2016-2018.
The last time they went to the final four they opened in Jacksonville.
The last time they went to the E8 they opened in Philly

Sports is a pretty good place to put your 'hate', as long as it's just 'play hate'.

Let's ask those two NC State girls that used to show up here every now and then?

Sheet - it's big money is all it is.
And you're either in the club or you ain't.
It's only disgusting and unfair because Memphis is on the outside looking in.

So what you are saying is we will never have the advantages that Duke does do to there not being any other suitable locations within 100 Miles of Memphis...Gotcha.
I am sure you realize that Duke/Memphis has nothing to do with arenas built close to their campus. But carry on.
