I would be surprised if EKU has much support from Ga Southern or Ga State. I doubt App St is "infatuated" with them either. Does he think Troy or USA are pushing them?

If he has sources off the record, why would he expose them? I'm willing to bet we hear his statements are accurate or pretty darn close during the spring meetings. But it wouldn't surprise me at all because the east schools have been dead set against NMST all along. EKU would be right up there alley.

EKU had 3,500 people show up for a playoff game after one of their best seasons in years. Plus they are not close to GaSt or GS. I seriously doubt EKU has much support.

It sounds like the "journalist" is more of a message board poster that is upset NMSU isn't getting invited so he throws out the EKU comment that is based on nothing.

Maybe you ought to research the guy rather than put "journalist" in quotes. He is paid professional media. And he isn't just throwing out the EKU comment based on nothing, that's a fact.

nmsu over eku all day long. better school better sports. recognizable name.

The answer is neither. Not even close.

EKU has zero chance .... but don't count out NMSU.

I believe the number you need is 8 votes to get it done, I'm afraid there won't be enough votes.

The number is 9 and I think there are only 6 solid NMSU votes.

One can reasonably assume that the Ark, La, Tex contingent fully supports NMSU all sports. To get to 9 votes, they would have to convince the Alabama contingent plus ONE of the newbies to go along with the idea.

South is probably easier to get than Troy. I have no idea how one of the other three could be convinced to go along with it though given their concerns with limiting travel.

The author probably reads this board as it sounds like the same old regurgitated story that keeps circulating on this board yet doesnt happen.
all he left out is the bit about benson wants liberty bad, alabama cant have 5 fbs schools, jmu is too snobbish for the sbc, mo st should be added now, and a side joke about adding kennesaw st.

So you are in agreement that based on your sources GaSt,GS,App St and Troy are "infatuated with" and pushing EKU for an invite? That is basically what he said which sounds more like message board drivel than actual insider sources. It sounds like he is upset NMSU isn't getting an invite so he emotionally responds with the EKU comment which has zero merit. If he has sources, he should say that "according to his inside sources EKU is being pushed hard by the Eastern schools" without revealing who those sources are. Chris Mortensen does that all the time.

What are the odds of an east/west bargain where the west gets NMSU all-sports and the east gets EKU? Grab UAB non-football and retain Idaho football only and things honestly look pretty solid. I'm not the biggest fan of partial members, but since we already have UALR and UTA we might as well go all in.

Told you what the situation is. EKU is being pushed. You choose to not believe it. Conversation pointless.

Not App or Ga South - happy to have both of those prgrams, don't want anyone else that is being discussed from the East.

App and Ga Southern have real athletic programs, the ones being mentioned, except NMSU, not so much.

RE: Benson Missed the Mark
There are many questions that we posters on the message board do not know the ansewer to such as we know that EKU wants to move to FBS but has the Sun Belt given them a list of things that they need to do first. Has EKU informed the conference with a timeline that they need to get this list of things done. Or has EKU told the conference that there are several things that they need to get done before they are in a position to move up. EKU could have the votes to join today but they and the Sun Belt are just waiting for all the pieces to be in place.

Then again EKU just may not have the votes.

As far as UAB, no decision can be made until the Sun Belt knows what CUSA is going to do in regard to UAB. Some asked what are the chances of UAB joining the Sun Belt. Well they are zero if they stay in CUSA.

The only thing we know is that NMSU does not have the votes because if they did have the votes they would all ready be in the conference. Liberty is in the same boat with NMSU, does not have the votes.

From what I have read and heard (on this board, other sources... not just here), stAte REALLY would like Missouri State in the Sun Belt, and we will make a home for them.

Using that 12/14 model (which I think works well), that would mean Idaho gets bumped, and we'd need another Olympic only school in the East.

Is there a team in the east that could make that move for Olympic only? I mean, aside from UMass obviously.

Well they are not in the same boat, and the two boats have different things going or not going for them. Liberty has lots of negatives, NMSU has perceived negatives that are overcome easily, but most importantly has one ore, and used to have two, they are still trying to reclaim that second ore to paddle into safe SBC waters.

RE: Benson Missed the Mark
The only quality programs available that reasonably fit our footprint are JMU, MoSt and Liberty.

JMU and MoSt would probably be supported by all of the programs. Liberty has the issues that have been discussed.

UAB would be a quality add that all would likely agree on, but I think CUSA may give them some time knowing that.

Where does that leave us? Nowhere as JMU and MoSt aren't interested. Liberty can't get the votes. The remaining marginal choices only become acceptable if we drop below 8 schools and are desperate.

It just seems odd that he is the ONLY "journalist" to state that EKU is being pushed hard by the eastern schools. Everyone in the meetings must not be saying a word and this guy has managed to get the only source that is leaking information.

Actually he is not, Mark Ferguson and a few others have mentioned it. You can check out Astatenation.com and the other mentions I will try and track down the links. Yes, you think beat writers would mention it and burn bridges with the athletic programs they cover daily? Guys like Mark Ferguson and BJ Thompson don't just have sources inside their programs, but also have sources or contacts that have been around or involved NCAA athletics for years.

As I stated, I'm going to wait and see what comes out of the spring meetings before throwing anyone under the bus. But do you actually think Karl Benson wants it to get out he runs a divided conference on a number of issues, or the chancellors for that matter?

As I stated, I'm going to wait and see what comes out of the spring meetings before throwing anyone under the bus. But do you actually think Karl Benson wants it to get out he runs a divided conference on a number of issues, or the chancellors for that matter?

Yeah, I'd be interested to see other sources saying EKU is being pushed by Eastern members. That would be new information as everything up until now has simply been that EKU is considering moving FBS and the SBC is the logical destination if they could get an invite.

Send the links when you find them.

All I am stating is that both NMSU and Liberty do not have 9 votes.

The answer is neither. Not even close.

EKU has zero chance .... but don't count out NMSU.

I believe the number you need is 8 votes to get it done, I'm afraid there won't be enough votes.

Easy fix - Karl has total control on how to distribute the NCAA payout from the NCAA win starting in 2016.

Don't distribute the $ to those backward, hillbilly institutions that don't want to vote them in .. since they obviously don't care about NCAA basketball money!

Stupid ridiculous idiot leaders in this conference that only are concerned about adding some SOCON retread because it fits their geography.

It's like the movie Idiocracy could have loosely been based on the leadership of this conference.

Together We Rise???!!!!

As far as the geography issue, you realize that adding another eastern team gets us back to where the conference was before realignment over the past few years. And yes, the Cajuns voted for FAU,FIU,WKU and MTSU. How is GS,GaSt,App and JMU/Liberty much different than what you had voted for before?
