Well that's just it. Chris Flemmings, a transfer from D-II Barton College, is also a walk-on.

You're right, I would agree that Flemmings is the better player, however Hickson was able to play this year - - which I'm sure added to the potential "value" of him being part of the club.

I think the hardest part will be to replace the "scout" team this upcoming year for practice as they apparently and I quote, "Thumped the starters on the regular, and it wasn't even close."

Fun times ahead!

Definitely a great problem to have! Looking forward to our new faces treating the rest of the CAA like our '14-15 starters were treated in practice.

Is there a limit to the number of walk-ons a team can carry?

Well, if you've graduated and you aren't getting scholarship money to stick around, a lot of players might think it's time to move on...but who knows?

You can have more than 1 walk on player from what I know. I do know that Hickson is a good student and don't know if he's graduating or not. Regardless, Flemmings is a good player period and can play-not sure how much yet but if he's a walk on...Wow! Yes, a good problem to have alright. That kid can play and cause problems in the kind of D that we play. Y'all haven't seen anything yet regarding pressure. With that written, you still have to be good in the half court on both ends. And, I feel that next years' club will be better in the half court. Shooters are now there without question. That will help big time in stretching the floor. Plus having court aware guys besides Talley will be big. Haywood is definitely court aware and very smart (on and off the court!), especially offensively from what I've seen. You simply have to account for him and that will open up a lot of space that this team didn't have. If all you have is going off a high ball screen like this year, the D can more easily defend. Not the case now. You have options. You can also put another shooter at wing like the kid from Fla or a driver like the freshmen from the Charlotte area to cause issues. It's going to be a fun situation to watch. Also, the kid from Hargrave can handle like a 3 man if he plays a 4 in this system at times. You essentially have 4 guys that can dribble, pass, and shoot. You can also go more traditional as well. I like the overall direction of the program because this coach knows how to assemble pieces and can get good pieces with his personality and charisma. Without pieces, your limited. We've got a good coach!

Just think about it for a minute. How much easier will it be for Talley, Ponder et al to drive the ball when the secondary defender has to stay home? How about D? Well, there's more numbers and many of them can now bust it hard and have the athleticism to really trap and really get after it. Not saying that they will immediately dominate. Not at all, but if you're going to play 94 feet, this is how to do it. You have to have numbers and players that can do it. I thought I never see this day at the beach ever. New day coming... and I'm not necessarily a big fan of selling out the whole floor, but it works for several teams across this land and if it helps getting talent here, I'm all in. Go Hawks!!!

I am a big fan of the full court press. As a mid-major, you have to have something different in order to compete with the big boys, and to beat up on your peers. The CAA should be ours for the taking over the next 5 years, which means NCAA bids, more exposure, more money. Hard to argue with the VCU, Louisville, Florida blueprint.

I also hope UNCW sets its' sights on the 20,000 student mark. We have a potential Chancellor that sees that vision, and there's no reason we shouldn't get there within the next 10 years. With those numbers, student fees to the athletic department put us in a different category financially.
