RE: Scoreboard
One need only look at CMU with their Touchdown Toolshed to know what a real endzone can look like.

Those were heady days back then, we had them every which way!!!

RE: Scoreboard
I could get my pencil out and a piece of paper..but it would be so cool to have some low luxury suites all the way around with a scoreboard on top at eye level for someone halfway up the stands with just 15 rows of seats below the suites and bowled in. Now you have perfect character all the way around. Keep attendance around 30,000 so if this goes where it might it is a hot ticket..because this town does not have a great history of turning out...Of course this is just my vision...and not my checkbook.

RE: Scoreboard
Turning out? Please list the MAC schools/towns with such great history of "turning out"? Granted, attendance could be better in all sports but I'd say we're more the norm than the exception for the vast majority of non-P5 schools. I do completely agree with keeping the approximate 30,000 capacity. That being said, it would be nice if the stadium could be re-designed to allow for some type of temporary additional sealting when needed (for instance, for the MSU game).

RE: Scoreboard
When it comes to sports enthusiasm, the area is not the greatest. A long term consistent winner could change that. The Darnell crowds were great but tanked when the team sank. I get it that is true in this conference. But I remember still when Ray LeBlanc had a great hockey run in the Olympics for the US. His first game back to the pro ranks was at Wings Stadium on a Wed. night. It was hyped all to hell and a big deal. They had their usual 1500 fans. Next Friday game, they had their usual sell out of 5500 (back in the IHL days). Would like nothing more than to see that change with a hot ticket item.

RE: Scoreboard
Kalamazoo is not a "sports town" but we certainly get good attendance numbers compared to most of the MAC.

Sound like from David Drew that two smaller videoboards will be put up on seelye center along with a larger one on the other side. That's going to be pretty impressive for a MAC school!

I am surprised that they can get 3 videoboards with only 2 million

Well, in the spirit of the TB pirate boat add-on -- all ya gotta do is Row The Boat! You burn off millions that way! We'd draw more fans if one of the video boards replayed (over and over again) a hidden locker-room cam of the cheerleaders. It'd help attendance.

RE: Scoreboard
Sounds like if Alec Gores doesnt drop in their lap, literally by accident that this scoreboard wouldn't have happened for many more years.

If you listen to the Hook interview with Gores it sounds like the USC game happened purely by chance after Gores had lunch with Pat Hayden and Hayden asked him where he had gone to school. Then Fleck flew in and sealed the deal with his mojo.

So if I'm Fleck and the academics are whining, I'd tell them you raise it you own it, just like any other business.

As for the other million needed for the "dream scoreboard" why not try to raise the additional funds through a grass roots effort and sponsor tie ins. Got the last board through a sponsor tie in. Must we continually beg high rollers?

Academics have gotten plenty of attention in the last few years, and if they are whining about what Fleck and the athletic department is doing to raise money, then they need to educate themselves further on the impact football program visibility can have on an university.

The athletic board has been reaching out to faculty organizations around campus to hold these discussions. So far, they've been fairly well received. The voices against athletics are loud, but they are just a small minority.

Football is the hook.

Like it or not, people care more about football than the medieval institute.

We can have good academics and good athletics, the two are not mutually exclusive. I hope Western leadership aspires for both.

RE: Scoreboard
new sound system yeah.

Spartan Stadium the Stones. Speaker towers 200 feet high. When they turned on the system, the lights in Lansing dimmed.

At one point I looked down at my chest and my rib cage was moving in and out in time with the bass. So loud, but no distortion.

Lets do it. Row the Boat, Baby.
