Glad I'm not looking for a job in MSP right now - Target Layoffs
Last year seemed to be the sweet spot for my discipline. Now with Target laying off the market will have a few more people to compete against. Though it seems IT was mostly spared i've heard of a few. I *almost* went to work there last year but the commute was about 45 minutes each way.

Instead I found a spot with about a 20 minute commute.

"Dave Brennan, a retailing specialist at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, said the cuts will make Target "leaner and meaner, with much faster decision-making than what it has been for a number of years."

I'm not really sure how cutting 1500 jobs will help them better compete with Amazon or Wal-Mart.

It won't, it's a salary dump aimed at improving the bottom line short term. Been through this before - those that are left just get added work responsibilities.

Even though everyone is getting hacked these days, Target was the first really big, well-publicized retailer to get hit.

I don't think they've recovered.
