come on biggie?? Who wants to miss a chance at going to Little Rock in December for a bowl game? Your nuts! This game will be the event of the year in Arkansas!!!!

Sorry but the opponent is not what I want for Houston.

in all honesty though, Tulsa/SMU/Houston vs Arky St in Little Rock in December would bring a pretty good crowd. Might even sell out....Arky St fans are pretty loyal

Well, I guess it would be kind of strange for you guys. You'd be playing a potential road game against an SBC team that would fully expect to beat you, yet nationally, if the SBC team won, it might look bad to the average idiot College Football fan who doesn't know anything about teams not in the SEC.

We've had this discussion before in this thread. The AAC needs a Western Bowl game to appeal to it's membership West of the Mississippi River. Unfortunately, the SBC and the MAC are the only leagues needing to create a new game right now, and location wise, Little Rock would never sign on if the SBC wasn't involved, because the entire point of the game is to give Arkansas State an instate bowl game, and bring a potential sell out crowd into play.

Now, sure, you guys could try and steal a bowl from an existing league, but those bowls are already tied into contracts right now, so it might be a few years before it could happen.

When you need to create a new bowl to get a game, your chances of finding the ideal conference and the ideal opponent are slim.

One thing to keep in mind is that Arkansas State is one of the schools working to actually create the game. That means, you're dealing with people who have traveled to Mobile in the last few years and seen how Mobile puts on a game (They are considered one of the best atmospheres for a small school bowl, sell out every season) Ultimately, that is a big advantage for Little Rock in the end. If they can get the city behind the game...and bring in the right SBC opponent, you've got something going.

Lets be honest, Arkansas State vs an SMU, Memphis, or Tulsa in that game would bring at least 45-50K into town. That would be insane tourism for a town that doesn't get a ton of tourism during the year.

One more thing---this is not a done deal. It needs a TV contract. There is a LRB thread on the Sunbelt Board that discusses the bowl. They way I understand it, the bowl needs to have the TV contract in the next few days if it's going to make the deadline to start up this season.

Figuring if CBSSports is doing the Cure Bowl, they probably would be interested in this bowl. Also, NBCsport of FS1 might be willing to get this bowl to get into the bowl business.

With all the new bowls that came on line a few years ago, I was very surprised that someone like Fox or NBC made no real attempt to grab some bowl rights. As cheap as CBS-Sports is, I'm surprised they were the only onto seize that opportunity.

Oh, and hope the payout is reasonable for the AAC participant.

No idea what it is. Of course, I have no idea what the Cure Bowl payout is either. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, the Miami Bowl is going into its second year and has not officially announced its payout. Just a guess---but I'm assuming these payouts are not being announced because they aren't very impressive.
