Harrisonburg Article on CAA Tourny
There's No Bubble Talk At CAA Tournament

If the regular season is any indication, the 10-team tournament will be a wild scramble to determine who gets the automatic bid for the NCAA tournament in two weeks.

RE: Harrisonburg Article on CAA Tourny
There will be unforeseen upsets. But no chance do I think anyone but W&M, UNCW or NU wins this thing, even if 1 or 2 of those teams get knocked off on Saturday/Sunday. I don't think it's as wide open as people are saying.

I think it's more wide open than when #11 seed EZU won it.

That's crazy talk. JMU and Hofstra aren't winning this thing. Drexel has 7 players. Charleston, Towson and Elon aren't winning 4 straight.

So that leaves Delaware. I could buy them as the lone sleeper. King-Davis wreaks havoc in the post, Kyle Anderson has the ability to shoot the lights out and their freshman PG went toe to toe with every PG in this league. Their only issue is coaching.

Apparently you weren't around to see that EZU team. They were horrible, but they made a run. I'm not saying I'm giving those lower team much of a chance. I'm just saying this conference play is the tightest I've ever seen in the CAA. And that goes back 40+ years.

Ok, ok. I haven't had my coffee today. I know the CAA isn't 40 years old.

RE: Harrisonburg Article on CAA Tourny
I think it was certainly tight on the basis of how the regular season went as a whole. But when you look at this thing through the prism of "What teams are designed to have success playing 3 games in 3 days?", and you look at how the matchups are set up, the answer is 4 at most. And 2 of them (Northeastern-Delaware) are set to face off and thus eliminate 1 of those 4 on Saturday night.

As competitive as the CAA has been all season long as a whole, this tournament is simply not built for all 10 teams to have an equal shot at winning it, and its done that way by design to protect the top teams.

If one of the bottom 4 or JMU/Hofstra wins this thing I'll gladly eat crow. All 6 of those teams can upset anybody in 1 game. But none of them are built to win 3 or 4 in a row. It doesn't help their cause that they're all facing each other. Out of JMU/Hofstra/Elon/Drexel/Towson/Charleston, 3 of those at minimum are guaranteed to be gone before Semi-final Sunday, before even getting a crack at a top 3 team. If us and W&M take care of business on Saturday, as we should, only ONE of those 6 teams survives to Sunday (JMU/Hofstra winner).

This thread will probably be fun to revisit after the first two rounds of the CAAT.

Especially if, say, I end up being way wrong and W&M loses to Elon or something. lol.

Could you imagine a Northeastern vs Hofstra final?

Tom Yeager would have a heart attack...

I would say you are most likely right. But, I've seen stranger things happen. Like Marquette and N.C. State. Not too many people thought they stood any Chance at being national championship. But that's why you play the game on the court, not on paper.

Some are still picking Northeastern to win the tourney. Not just a pick, but they have them favored.

Interesting. Makes me more confident than ever that Delaware will knock them off on Saturday night.

They are just looking at RPI. They know very little about the CAA as a whole. And probably don't care to.

See what I mean fellas? Not nearly as wide open as people said. No play in teams survive, and while we may have underestimated Hofstra a bit, only the top teams remain.

Both of our next possible opponents will be a load for us tomorrow. Hope the team enjoys their win for a bit, watching the game now, get some rest, and then go at it hard again tomorrow!
