Re: fishing, I always head closer to Foscoe or Banner Elk. The colder water is better fishing. Some of the streams are stocked. Make sure to get your trout stamp at Walmart.

Will do, Boone is pretty big when you don't know your way around. Also I believe we were cabbing it cause we didn't know where to park and the only place we had been told to go was that Tapp room place. Next time i'll make sure to go to King

The bars are a little different than when I was there (I graduated in '11 and worked in the area until '13). Here's my list in order:

Bars:
tApp Room
Boone Saloon
Galileo's
Portifino
Murphy's
Town Tavern
Klondike
Char
Parthenon
the rest

Breweries:
Appalachian Mountain Brewery is one of my favorites in the State, and The Local on King St is decent (I've only been once).

You can walk to all these places from campus with the exception of AMB. Next time you're out I recommend parking on campus or something if you have a DD, but if you don't and you have to cab it home make sure you move your car before game day.

River St. Ale House (old mellow mushroom- sollecito's building) has a better than average bar menu. I've enjoyed it the times I've been.

There used to be a pretty hot prostitute (Delta Zeta, I think) back in 98 that lived up the road that went behind there. I'm not calling her a prostitute because of lack of respect for sorority girls, she really was a prostitute...allegedly. I wouldn't know for sure, of course.

It would be unusual for the leaves to hang around that long. Peak weekend is typically the second weekend of October, so the GS game will be the best for leaf lookers.

And some of the owners of some of the stocked ponds have guns.

Orvis has an office in Foscoe and they have stocked streams if you want to fish and feel good about yourself.

Surprisingly, the creek that runs by State Farm Parking Lot has a lot of trout and its easy access. Haven't been there in a long time, so it might have changed, but my buddy's dad caught a huge trout out of there.

I would recommend renting a cabin in echota on the ridge. Located directly beside grandfather mountain, it's been known to provide some incredible views and the units are great. Also as an addition to the bars mentioned, can't believe Lost Province hasn't been named yet. One of boones newest gems. Two story local brewery that reminds you of something that would be found in a major city. Also great beer, great food.

Here are a couple of sites that may help. The head waters of Boone Fork are pretty tranquil, but a series of falls down towards the Watauga River make the terrain very difficult to navigate with fishing gear. Some good fishing there.
