I THINK it was chiefan that said WKU was the primary driver behind blocking NMSU all sports. I don't think WKU alone could have blocked it, so they had other support. I wonder if those thinking no to NMSU still feel the same.
I want NMSU all sports as part of a package deal that improves basketball to a 2 bid league, or on the cusp of it. Adding them alone doesn't do it. I don't think adding them alone and Missouri State (that's two "western" schools, which is a tough sell) will do it either.
However, an elimination of sub DI games (or reduction to 1 maximum), a push by the league to increase the product on the field, and adding those two teams might put us on the cusp.
We have got to get better as a whole to get more than one bid. We have six schools with an RPI of more than 240. We have one school with an RPI in the top 100. That has to be reversed. We need at least six top 100 schools. NMSU alone cannot get us there. That said, I don't have a problem with then joining the SBC for all sports.
Missouri State just ended the season at 11-20 with an RPI of 242. Texas State has an RPI of 241, to give you an idea of how bad their season has gone. When I think of basketball programs that could help us, Missouri State is not one. They have a beautiful arena and play in a quality league, but that does not mean they are good.
The non-D1 games are really not the problem. It is the other OOC games. I would limit the non-D1 games to two, but SBC schools just need to play better competition. That is not always going to be easy if the good schools avoid us because we might hurt their RPI.
I'm sure that mostate would have a better won-loss record playing in this year's sbc..and they seem to have a better following than most sbc schools.
Missouri State was 0-13 versus schools with a top 150 RPI. They have now gone 16 years without going to an NCAA Tournament. Our conference is full of schools that can do that.
We all know your position on Missouri State. How has Texas State done over the past ten years?
Yeah, but no one said the SBC needed Texas State because of basketball.
Of course, with that said, I'm very supportive of MSU joining all sports.

No way PSU leaves the Big Ten for the ACC. Not going to happen now that Maryland and Rutgers are safely in the B1G... UCONN, Cincy, WVU, etc...all prime targets obviously....won't happen with PSU, that I can assure all of you.

It doesn't matter how Texas State has performed the past decade. We wanted to move up, expressed that desire, had the facilities, and the money to do so.
We also had prime location in our favor.
Trying to disparage his argument against MSU by comparing their performance to us is futile, and trying to shift the discussion away from where it was.
