The p5 get a slap on the wrist. UNC and Miami are a good example. UNC didn't even have real college for some athletes.

Hard to disagree with anything in the article. All the schools mentioned have basically cheated and nothing has happened.

Until the NCAA starts big time penalties such as making coaches miss a year and no-TV for year type penalties this stuff will continue.

Banning a school like UNC from TV in every sport for a year would send a msg.

The best thing about that would be the peer pressure from conference mates and the real ruler of college football which is the tv companies.

Yeah you effed up and you're going to lose the exposure but you are also screwing up the conference and network's contract. None if them are gonna be too happy about that and you're probably going to owe some people some money.

People are willing to cheat because you're program does really well, you get a bunch of bandwagon fans, you rake in a bunch of revenue and then if you're busted you just stink for a couple years if the penalties are even strict enough to make that happen. If you lose 5-10 scholarships a year it's going to have an effect and you might see a downtick at the gates but the decrease in revenue is probably going to be fairly negligible. Lose your tv money for a year along with whatever you might owe the conference and network for breach of contract and it might be less enticing to gamble on cheating purely from a financial standpoint, which is ultimately what matters. Not the perception of your program or whether you forfeit games years after the fact.

Cheating pays off, but it is doesn't make it right. I would rather sleep well at night, than win by cheating.

Well..it didn't pay off for us. Our former AD (original Florida Gator) thought he could cheat like he was in the SEC. Actually. .not nearly as bad as the SEC. We got caught..sanctioned..AND the kids never played a down for us.

RE: SIR, Pat Forde shows that cheating pays off in college sports
Once fans realize its not the "NCAA"-its the power schools that have defunded the investigative apparatus of the NCAA-then you might be on to a solution. The NCAA is an association of schools run by the P5 which don't want excessive investigations of their programs. Blaming the NCAA is an easy target that everybody hates because their own school has gotten a probation at some point. Blame it on the programs that run the NCAA

more than send a message. Look how the SWC teams in the 80's fared with the tv bans in the 80s and early 90s
