Broncos play USC
What's your thoughts on playing another powerhouse team like USC?

Be great experience for players and fans, nothing to lose except another game to P5 school.

Question is, why would they want to play us, when SOS is supposed to play big part in determining playoff teams?

Mixed. It is great for exposure of our university. I can see it as a great experience for the players and some fans.
On the flip side, it is not a winnable game. I am also very concerned with injuries from highly athletic teams. You don't want these injuries harming the more important MAC schedule.
I personally prefer WMU playing mid to lower level P5 teams. They are more winnable and you are less likely to be overwhelmed by them.

Perfect! Money for the program and gives us the opportunity to take the kids to Disneyland. A win or highly competitive performance is icing on the cake.

Agree. Losing to Michigan, MSU, Notre Dame, Florida State - any of the big names we have played - are still losses.

I understand needing the blood money for athletic department but it doesn't help football to start the season with two almost certain losses on the schedule.

Heck we're 0-5 against that noted football powerhouse INDIANA, 0-4 vs. Minnesota.

Don't see much downside unless we get beat up. This is mainly a great move.

I agree with all of this.

The biggest downside I see is that now in 2017 - like in 2015 - we have two games on the schedule we are very unlikely to win (at MSU in 2017 being the other).

I would take a nonconference schedule like 2016 (at NW, at Illinois, Georgia Southern, FCS TBD) over 2015 and 2017 any day. Assuming the program continues to improve, there's not an unwinnable game in that bunch. We play three FBS schools that we should be very competitive with.

That said, it will be fun to watch us open the 2017 season in the Coliseum.

It will certainly be an experience. Ignoring the win/loss thing...it's a great school with a beautiful campus, beautiful area, beautiful weather, beautiful girls, a good football program and a great stadium. Not a bad marching band either. If there's one away game I would love to go to (outside of bowl games), it's this one. I'm excited for the team. It's not every day you get to go play football in SoCal.

Yes! Franklin will show the world the meaning of "Beast Mode" and "Heisman Moment." It will be a great way to kick off his senior campaign!

I am completely okay with it, and in fact, pretty ecstatic with this. There are three other non-conference games to play the likes of Illinois or Iowa St. Let's play one big time opponent a year. Get a big check, which the reality is, it is needed. And expose both your athletes and program to big time football. The only thing to lose is the game, and while that sucks, I personally believe it is important for them to challenge themselves in this manner every year.

Stop running scared people. I guarantee the team and it's coaches aren't.

Glad it's in 2017. I brought this up a while back and thought it might be for 16.

RE: Broncos play USC
It will be a great experience for the players and the few hundred of our fans who can afford or live close enough to attend.

The need for blood money games to help the non-revenue sports is an unfortunate reality.

The old argument about how scheduling games against big name opponents like USC helps recruiting is debatable.

There's just something about playing teams against whom we will probably struggle to compete-have no chance to win that doesn't seem right.

I agree. It gives the players and new recruits time to understand the system and expectations. Many players will have experience by that time playing in big games...Michigan State, Ohio State, etc. Hopefully, at that point, Broncos would be more competitive....could even stage an upset.
