These are the number of households that Nielsen estimates actually receive each network. The percentage calculation is based on Nielsen's estimate of 116.4 million homes in the U.S. with televisions.

Here are the sports networks:

Network name...Estimated # of Homes (000)...Coverage %
BEIN SPORT......16,945................................14.6
CBS Sports Network...[NOT RATED BY NIELSEN]
ESPN...............94,396................................81.1
ESPN CLASSIC...25,516................................21.9**
ESPN2..............94,379................................81.1
ESPNEWS..........71,989...............................61.8
ESPNU..............73,594...............................63.2
FOX SPORTS 1....84,836...............................72.9
FOX SPORTS 2....45,393...............................39.0
NBCSN..............81,578...............................70.1

**ESPN Classic is slowly moving to VOD only as contracts end**

BeIN needs to step it's game up, it's the lowest distributed English speaking network.

Distribution is one thing...FoxSports1 and NBCSports Network need viewers.

Here's a snap shot at NBC Sports Network TV Ratings for a week in January (i.e. early Sunday AM Premier League games drew higher ratings than Primetime NHL Games and much higher than A10 games on NBCSports)

NBCSN's issue is lack of weekday afternoon content. No studio shows (because they cancel them all and don't attempt to start new ones and not much live programming. Sprinkle in some studio shows, some midweek soccer like the League Championship, and another property or two (D1 NCAA conference and something in the summer) and they would be better off. Dan Patrick is a decent leadin they just need to drop the hunting and fishing shows.

Fox Sports's issue was a lot of studio shows but not a lot of live content. That's of course starting to rectify but them need to drop the radio simulcast they currently have and simulcast The Brando show in the mornings. Then at Noon ET have a live edition of Fox Sports Live. And build the remaining daily schedule from there.

It's basically the spiritual successor of Fox Soccer/Fox Soccer Plus.

Fox Sports real issue is lack of access to the eastern half of the country with local content. If they owned the AAC, they'd have at least something to build on. 05-stirthepot

Having a former TV Exec is going to payoff in the long run. Similar to the original Big East, the AAC is hungry for exposure, and once the programs start benefiting from the exposure the next TV contract will be better. Like'em or not, ESPN is the best all sport network on cable, and has been for almost 30 years.

Something ECU fans have said from Day 1. Just replace networks with universities. It seems to be extremely important at the high level when determing true value...but lost on those at other levels looking to add teams to their conference. Viewership matters most as it directly correlates to the value of the distribution.
