I see us being 11-1 (close loss in Columbus only blemish) heading into MACC game, which should be a W because East sucks.

Then, possible rematch with Buckeyes in playoffs!

Until we beat Toledo and Northern Illinois, we should probably calm down on the BCS talk.

For us to go 11-1 and only barely losing to OSU, and get into the playoffs, not only would we need pretty much all top G5 conference contenders to have 2 losses with a weak schedule, and 3 losses with an OK schedule -- but we'd need the following to happen:

1) MSU to go 1 loss, only to us, while beating Ohio State & Oregon, and dominating and winning the B1G

2) Ohio State to go only 1 loss, only to MSU, but smearing a 2-loss NIU, crushing Harbaugh's new UM team, and THUMPING @VA-Tech

3) GA-Southern to go only 1 loss to us, winning @West Virginia who wins or ties for 1st of the B12, and @Georgia who wins the SEC

4) NIU only having 2 losses, to us & Ohio State while beating @Boston College who takes their ACC division, while also thumping UNLV + Toledo (and everyone else)

5) Toledo only having 2 losses, to us & NIU, thumping Iowa State who gets #2 in the B12, thumping @Arkansas who wins their SEC division to play Georgia in the SEC Championship, and Ark State who goes #2 to GA-Southern in the Sun Belt (but also beat @USC and Missouri at home)

6) BGSU only having 2 regular season losses: Once to us, and once to NIU or Toledo (depending on who they play). BGSU wins @Tennessee, @Maryland, Memphis, and @Purdue. We beat them again in the MACC.

If all this happens: *YES*, we will VERY LIKELY make the playoffs. :)

The more I read this thread, and delusional fantasies contained within, the more it reminds me very much of CMU happy talk. 01-wingedeagle

Oh, this is pretty much a happy talk forum these days. There's still some objectivity left, but even that is viewed with contempt by many. The irony is many in that group think everyone left because of DB.

The author of the article ranking us #4 was delusional, which has been my main point throughout this thread.

The real question then is, what are the realistic expectations of this team for next season? The full 2015 schedule should be released fairly soon, but without seeing that yet, here is what I see:

- I don't see us beating MSU or OSU.
- Georgia Southern is arguably the biggest game of the season, considering where the game falls on the schedule. Should be a great game. I think we have a 50/50 shot.
- I could see us maybe winning at either NIU or at Toledo, but I don't see us winning both.
- And I don't see us going 7-0 in the remaining games on our schedule. I don't know which of those games we lose, but I don't see us winning all of them.

All of that said, we won eight games a year ago. Considering our youth, if we match or exceed that in 2015, that would be a fairly solid season.

6-6, 7-5 at best, and we'll still be a better team than last year. Until our AD stops trying to balance the books by playing P5 super powers we will never have a 9+ win season.

This is true.

Last year's non-conference schedule is the kind that is manageable (and how the MAC offices want us to schedule): Low-tier Big Ten, mid level P5, beatable G5, and FCS. Give us a chance to go 3-1 in the non-conference schedule. The bye in the middle of it to rest up was a nice bonus.

I still contend that pouring additional money into our hockey program has also played a factor in all of this too.

Quote:- I don't see us beating MSU or OSU.

I give it a 2% chance we win both, an 8% chance we win 1, and a 90% chance we lose both.

Quote:- Georgia Southern is arguably the biggest game of the season, considering where the game falls on the schedule. Should be a great game. I think we have a 50/50 shot.

If we win that game, it will be key to the mentality of the team. I agree, it's a 50/50 thang.

Quote:- I could see us maybe winning at either NIU or at Toledo, but I don't see us winning both.

I give it a 15% chance we win both, a 33% chance we win 1, and a 52% chance we lose both.

Quote:- And I don't see us going 7-0 in the remaining games on our schedule. I don't know which of those games we lose, but I don't see us winning all of them.

I agree that's asking a lot, and I think that's what people overlook when all the focus is on the 2 B1G powerhouses, 1 G5 power, and 2 MAC powers on the road. What about the other 7 games? Ball State's going to be improved well, even though it's at home. Bowling Green getting settled in with their coach is going to be Better, especially with Johnson back at QB. Ohio's going to at least be a bit better getting settled in at QB, and that's going to be on the road. IMO, Miami-OH is going to be a surprise team as well, although they're at home and we should come out with at least a victory. Our only givens of those other 7 games are: EMU, D1AA, and CMU at home.

I give it a 15% chance we go 7-0, a 40% chance we go 6-1, a 28% chance we go 5-2, and 15% chance we go 4-3, and 2% chance we're under .500 in those 7.

All in all, if we take out @GA-Southern, @NIU, or @Toledo -- which there's a reasonable shot (~70% chance) -- there's just as great of a chance that we'll lose one of those remaining games.

Expect: 7-5 (Losses to MSU, OSU + 2 from GA-Southern/NIU/Toledo + 1 from BGSU/@Ohio/BSU/Miami/CMU/@EMU/D1AA)

I don't know - if you recall our coach said, when hired, he could win a national championship here, even if it took 14 years.

He's gotten everything he asked for, raised a lot of money. Recruited very well. He and staff proved last Fall they can coach.

I'm sure he has a lot of say in the scheduling (at USC in '17?)

Can't win a NC just playing MAC schedule and P5 bottom feeders.

Personally, I will always evaluate our program on how we do in conference, especially against CMU and EMU.
